Just hit the limiter to hard and went into limp mode. It happens. Limiter is there for a reason. I did it information gear once. Just made popping sounds until I let off then was fine As for the op. He was spinning in 3rd in the wet and probably barley moving. Car got traction and bogged hard.
Remember the tacs in these cars are pretty laggy. Gotta shift a little before redline :P

Blinking CEL means you did something stupid and your not telling us the whole story.
I dont think you sucked in water since your on the stock airbox, I do believe that you could be experiencing massive missfires. You said your in a parking lot which makes me immediately think you just started the car up and didnt give the car enough time to warm up. Then you gave it the gas and yeah, you can get missfires that way. I'd let the car get to 170*F before I really drive the car. I will roll out of the parking lot and keep the rpms low after I get to 130*F. By the time I get to my first traffic light Im above 170*F.
Anyway, Its the only thing I can think of that could have been the issue.. Is your car still experiencing an issue?

happens to 2000s golfs all the time cause they must have a specific cat or else they break. hence why I hate VWs.
If you dont hear "rocks" anymore and the car doesnt seem to be struggling like its fuel starved then your cats probably ok.
