Also this is finally hard proof of this car coming out. I also heard form someone who works for GM (Parts devision) that there was in fact a Turbo coming out with horsepower around 275.
I don't know how they dyno the engines or anything but if the Solstice and Sky put down 260 to the rear wheels, the front wheel Cobalt should have higher hp ratings correct? Unless they just dyno the engine without the power going through the drive train.

what engine is this going to be? any way the 2.2s out there can benefit by getting a cheaper turbo?

They dyno engines on a stand and not in the car. It'll make less because of the alternator and the air conditioner.

I am very happy w/ my SC and not going back to turboland
I am curious how they are going to put all that power to the ground w/o stuff breaking....
geeze w/ stage 1 I have a hard time laying the power down.... Imagine the torque steer
IDK...but I am happy w/ my SC and it's plenty fast enough for me
I just got a ticket 3 weeks ago and thought I was just crusin' normally, so now I have to be good for a year after driving school to keep the ticket off my record...
so now I'm watching my speed.... everytime I put my foot in it, I look down and I'm already speeding... and I am just getting into 3rd
I need more power.... like I need a hole in my head

Adam - it is being released as an 08 to going along with all the current 08 Cobalts .
The LAP 2.2 - is not a replacement for the L61 . Its a Hybrid version of the 2.2 engine . Alot has changed with the Cobalt since that document , so dont expect it in 09 ....the last year of this body style . 2010 Cobalt on Delta 2 chassis( and built in Mexico ) is engineered out of the gate for a hybrid though .
Release date - 2nd quarter of 2008 which is mid spring .

It is old news because no one would believe it UNLESS they saw it on the net.
And earlier series of posts I came out and stated it was coming out in the spring and I had see it first hand being tested by the Delphi Fuel Injection division here locally.
Its due to be released with a series of other car in Spring 08. Pontiac is also dropping the name Grand Prix for a new name of G-8 also to be released with it.
But as others had mentioned, I'll wait and drop a few grand, yes a few grand more to get the new Camaro.

when you first log on to cobaltss.net at the bottom there is a place to read about the end of the supercharged ss. new emissions regulations being the key factor for scrapping the car. this release of info is a few months after the sae approved test. so what if you found the test results. is the ss car even listed on chevys site for 08? no! i see the HHR SS but no Cobalt SS. i,d love to be proved wrong, because i want to see a LNF car as well.
i looked at emissions information for all upcoming gm 08 models that was provided and the date is august 1. maybe the LNF Cobalt just wasn't removed from the info????????

I don't know but even if it does come out. People ask how things won't break. Simple, you have to remember off the line it won't have as much power as the SS/SC. Your boosting right away with a SC and that is what puts so much stress on the axles. A turbo won't be getting full boost till its already off the line. This is both less stress and better for launching. I will be very interested in the new cobalt SS/TC if it comes out.

I'll have one of the first ones...a reason NOT to get Camaro Z28 and GET a TC Cobalt SS is the fact that EVERY 09 Model Year camaro will be sold for 5-10k OVER sticker just like solstice has issues, camaro will have even more b/c of the fan base and the lack of a Chevy rwd v8 2+2 car in the past 5 years. So yeah I'd love a Camaro, but at that price, and with my family's GMS I could buy a Camaro how i want with options for the price of a base vette....i'd rather get the vette....so a TC Cobalt SS will get better MPG, mods up the ying yang, fwd in the winter in MI, lower payments, etc.
CobaltSScrazy
Plus, we'll be able to outhandle a camaro anyday of the week, just the same as the 3series will always outhandle the CTS, its smaller, more nimble, etc.
