It's actually a crack in the block from weakness caused by the molding.

wow, thats crazy. and by looking at the build date, does that determine weather you could have a possible porus block?

Porosity can be a problem with pretty much any block whether its lost foam, sand, die-cast, etc. It's why when designing a block there are usually specs on minimum wall thicknesses based on validation testing and statistical data regarding process, material, etc.

i've also heard that if a tthe foundry the metal is poured too quickly or when it's cooled too much it can cause micro bubbles to form in the cast and that can create a sponge like texture in certain areas of the block.

That is porosity you are referring to, its comes in various degrees like shown below, various amounts of porosity in test ingots:

Our cars are twins, built on the same day. Share the same gene pool...

Lovely right ...

Keep me posted , I am in the process of putting her back to stock, I am all about paying to play, but not with something like this.

It started with a low coolant light. topped it off never thought anything of it .... yeah right...

My build date is 06/08. Ive had my low coolant light on twice in the early morning when it was cold. I parked it for two weeks over the christmas break when I went to WI and when I came back and I was low a good amount of coolant in the resovior tank. No one drove it so I topped it off and have been ok every since.

keep an eye on it and i would have your temp up on your DIC so you can monitor it.

that's how i knew something was wrong before things blew.

In the city I'm usually at 200ish. Drag strip days not hot lapping it, I've seen it at 210 by the end of the 1/4 mile. What's everyone's normal city temp?

Yeah my old 4th gen camaro's would run a little over 200. I guess that's about normal for an aluminum block. What do you think happened to my coolant? It was an inch below the fill line randomly from just sitting. I think my coolant was playing hide and seek

mine did that too.

that being said.. expansion and contraction due to heating and cooling can raise and lower levels as well

What are the dates affected by this? Mine is 1/2008. My warranty actually expired today. I haven't had any problems with coolant or temps.

Oh ya we were affected. Had mine at 2000kms 2 months after I got my car brand new. Everything totally stock. Took the dealer one hour after I brought it in to call me telling me that was the problem.
