Ok here's the deal. I have a 06 LS without premium sound or any of that its just the basic stock stereo. I want to install my subs in it by hooking up a line converter to the rear speakers. However I need to know which wires are positive and which are negative. I tried to figure it out using the cobalt radio pin out sticky but it was down right confusing. Thanks

usually i think the black is a ground and the white is the power, just hook them up and if it dosent work change it around

i bealive the negatuve usually has a black line on the colored insulating rubber

if you hook it up and your speakers bounce in rather than out you have the wires backwards.

The sticky is a little complicated, but if you read it eventually you will get it. However what that guy said above seems right, i thought i remember blue being on the left rear speaker though...hmm

While there are some standards about what color wire means what, there are always differences from one to the next. However...

I haven't tried this myself on my own Cobalt yet, but if you look at the actual terminals on the speakers themselves, sometimes the manufacturer labels the polarity. Try that.

Thanks I actually thought I hooked it up correctly but looking at this shows me know that I have it backwards. It still works even hooked up wrong but I will switch it just so that it is correct.

Well another member on another site said that you i had it hooked up correctly. where did you get your information from. It works how i have it and he said its correct. If it was wrong how would I know for sure if it was incorrect?

Um, if you just type in GM speaker wire colors in google, you'll find a bunch of sites that list what I posted. If I'm not mistaken, it will work if you have them swapped, but I'm sure its not a good way to leave them. If the colors did match up, I'd make them match the list I posted.

Thanks. I looked it up in google like you suggested and it found one specifically for my car that had all the same colors listed. It was like you said, they are backwards. Sorry for doubting you.

If you have it hooked up with reverse polarity it will still work, but the subs will be "out of phase" from the other speakers. Sometimes it actually sounds better to run subs out of phase but generally not. You can just play with switching the polarity until it sounds best to you and leave it that way.

Installer trick - get a AA battery.

put a piece of wire on either end. you can hold it in place with electrical tape. touch the bare ends of each wire to the speaker terminals. the speakers will push out if you have the positive and the neg hooked up correctly. This is a sure way to figure it out. Sometimes online color codes are not accurate
