Twice now my security light has come on.. this time coming home from the Pistons game. The security light comes on solid in the instrument cluster but no DIC message. I am not sure what the hell is going on, all it does is ding. WTF does that mean? I looked in the manaul and it makes no mention of the light other then if the light blinks it means the security locks/horn alarm is on. urk. Please advise.

I checked all my doors, trunk, hood, made sure the doors were locked/unlocked, gas cap and gas door. Goes away after shutting the car off and on but that doesn't help making it go away for good.

BTW this is on my 2.2L Sedan.. want my SS back from storage quick!!

The Security lamp is "shared" between the Content Theft (CTD) and Vehicle Theft Deterrant (VTD) systems. When it comes ON while the IGN is ON (with a chime) it indicates the BCM has detected a fault in your VTD system. You should take it in right away so they can pull the DTC and get it fixed up before it leaves you stranded somewhere.(Likely needs an IGN SW)

I noticed that everytime Onstar did a Remote Diagnostic the light turned on right away after...! I get emails monthly from there updating the status on my car...!
(Ive actually had the car lock me out of the ignition before cause of it) i just turned the car off waited for the alarm light to come back on and it starts right up...pain in the butt though..

Just tell them your security light is ON at times when you drive... that'll be good enough

Mean time they won't touch it, oh well.. another funny thing is it's the same brand remote autostart they feature on the impala, HHR, monte carlo etc for those who offer factory remote starters... can't see why it would be SUCH a big deal... I at least got an oil change and my car thrown through the car wash when I was there

I'm going to see what another dealership will say when I give it to them next week.

if it's the same remote start they offer don't tell them you had it put in afterwards. at the new dealer

I thought the security light was illuminated when your car had been tampered with or something, like if your alarm went off while you were in a store, you come out to your car, and the light would be on, its happened to me before, and for that exact reason, i remember reading it in the owners manual too..maybe this helps?

If your alarm went off while you were in a store, the only indication would be 3 horn "chirps" when you next unlock your doors or pop your trunk with the remote.

After the "bulb test" phase, the security indicator should NEVER be ON (or flashing) when the IGN is ON or the engine is running.
