how to remove center console [56k?]

i'm currently working on making my interior black and gray. i did my door panels a little over a month ago, along with the dash pieces. most recently i decided to do the top portion of my center console as well. those pieces are extremely easy to remove so if you're not 100% sure how to do it then read on.

first step is to remove the emergency brake panel. in this above shot you can see the completed panel.

there are 6 clips to this thing. one in each corner and two in the center. all you have to do is lift up at the corners [i started at the front of one side and just worked my way around]

btw, you will need to lift the e-brake in order to slide this piece off.

then you will be left with this...

if you want to paint the brake handle as well, there will be a little clip on the underside that you just have to push in and the plastic piece will slide right off. warning...i used a little primer on mine and a lot of clear coat but it still has a few but barely visible scratches.

anyway, the rear cup holders. there are 5 clips to this one but unlike the e-brake panel, this one is easier to remove by lifting up from the back and then working your way around. i dunno why i bothered with this pic but here's a shot of the two front clips...

after a little lifting you'll be left with this ugly mug...

after that, the panel around the shifter. this one is a little tougher to get out. i took the cup holders out when i did mine so i could kinda see what was going on down there

if you chose to do that great, but in order to remove the panel you must first put the car in neutral or any gear after that really as long as the shifter is out of the way.

i didn't get a shot of this panel removed because my batteries died [r.i.p] but all you have to do here is pull up on the corners closest to the e-brake and work your way around [if i remember correctly there are 8 clips]. after all the clips have let loose you'll have to undo the power outlet clips but don't pull the panel out too far to do that because the wires to the outlets are rather short. at least mine are but once that is done pull the panel back and lift it out. pat yourself on the back because you are done! to put everything back in obviously just reverse the steps. oh, i absolutely could not get those power outlets out of the panel so you'll have to tape those off if you don't want paint getting on them. here are some before and after shots of my car, i like how everything has turned out so far...

one more thing, my choice of paint was krylon fusion satin black

very nice write up dude. i would add a few pics of a 5speed as it's a little differen't in taking the main center console out. you have to put the shifter into 1st and you have to pull the ebrake up. as well as you have to unhook the shifter boot. but ya very nice write up.

it's really not that glossy, the flash from the camera made it seem that way.

around the base there should be a section at the top that you can push in, then pull it up....
