How Much Oil does 2.2 Cobalt take??

I changed my oil and put 5 qts of oil in it. The dip stick isn't registering properly saying the oil is at it's proper level. Usually it says the oil is low. I don't know if I should add oil or not. Please help

From what I remember my brother saying when he changed his oil, I belive he said 5.5 quarts. Don't quote me on that though.

It is 5 quarts on the dot. Don't put in any more than that.

Yes it is 5 quarts.... the dipsticks on the cobalt are weird..... it looks like its low but its not.... as long as the oil is in the middle of the dipstick its full..

when i am done driving me car i wait a few minutes then check the oil. the oil is up to the 3rd line. A little above the middle. The thing is the oil on the dipstick is really thin. Does it matter if the oil is thin?

I've always put in 5 quarts on the dot and it's been perfect. I wouldn't mess with it.

So yeah, recently i noticed some white smoke coming out my exhuast when i started my car and i was like wtf? I was doing it for like 3 weeks and finally i check my oil and it was way above the full line. So anyway i remember got my oil changed at what i thought used to be a good place to change oil. Come to find out the stupid hillbillies put like at least 7-8 quarts of mobil-1 into my 5quart engine. So for those who say its easier to take it in to get it done, i say no way, im doing it myself from now on. Hopefully there is not too much permanent damage, the car is running like a charm now that i have royal purple in and the right amount. Thank god for my 6 year warrenty.

ummm, I've changed my own oil several times on my 2.2. I put a little over 4 quarts in it everytime. Like 4.2. if you put 5 quarts in, you will put too much. whoever said put 8 quarts in the 2.0 should be shot.

you might not be draining it fully, the manual says 5 with filter, my came out perfect with 5 quarts as well.

5 qts on the dot. If I feel like I didn't drain all the oil out(a good bit I mean we can't get ALL oil out) I may leave a 1/8th left over.
