blow off valve question
installing a bov today on my upper charge pipe flange, how many of you shut your bypass valve spring to stop flutter or is that not needed?

I've personally actually always had the best luck with a vta bov using both the bpv and bov together (just make sure the bov is NOT sharing the port on the bpv solenoid with the bpv. It MUST have a direct manifold vacuum source). It sounds silly but this allows you to get the sensitivity of the bpv at light/medium throttle, no super rich spikes in between shifts and still lets your inner ricer shine for more spirited driving. In order to stop the ecm from going into a pissed off tizzy every time you let off the throttle or go into a high vac situation like dfco though you really need to set the bov adjustment relatively tight. This in a way defeats the "ricer" purpose of having that nice vta bov sound, but that's really the only way around a crap ton of issues.... short of a maf relocate that is of course. But that's another whole tuning nightmare in itself. lol
Long and short of it, bov's are just a nonsense headache that's just NOT worth it on the stock turbo in my, and many others on here that have had to deal with this sort of thing first hand. Just save yourself and your tuner the frustration and get a short ram cai with the stock (or forge) bpv and call it a day.

Those units tend to be quite a bit less problematic than a "standard" vta bov though to be honest. They still give the car heart burn from time to time due to there being no recirc, but not nearly the agita a vta gives. Not to mention the fact that soooo many bov's leak right out of the box and most tend to not really be aware of this so the issue never gets addressed.

I ran my setup for a few months before I got tuned with no issues at all.
Every time I put my block off in I would have a whole lot of flutter. No flutter at all when I run with the bpv.

Exactly. Like I said above, I've always had the best luck by running both a vta bov and bpv together in cars that the owners are hell bend on running a vta with the stock turbo. It all just needs to be setup correctly to work well. I think a block off plate is a terrible move either way.

^ make sure you put some Molykote or similar on it to keep it swollen so you get a good seal. You probably didnt have it fully seat and it got vented to atmosphere with your boost.
