My stupid blown up car thread
12/27/13 Bought my car with 41k
Had FBO and a BNR2871 tuned on 93. coming from a 180hp GTI it really kinda scared me driving so I'd get on it at about 3k rpm and then shut down at 5k rpm just trying not to rev it out.
1/07/14 Raced a buddies mustang , finally took the car to the 6800rpm redline while racing and had a few misfires whenever over 5k rpm , repeated it a couple times and found the same issues.
1/20/14 pulled the valve cover due to recommendations to check lash adjusters. Found a snapped lash adjuster on Cyl1 with a broken rocker arm as well.
1/22/14 Dropped the car off at Fathouse fabrications to have all new Cryo'd lash adjusters and 82# valve springs installed.
2/03/14 got my car back and it still cut out pretty badly over 5k rpm , almost worse now.
2/05/14 did a compression test and found 150psi across 2-4 and 12psi on Cyl 1 , did a leak down and heard air out the dipstick tube. Assumed it was a blown/fried piston ring from all the heat from having a exhaust valve stuck closed when the lash adjuster was broken.
2/07/14 started buying parts for a built 2.1 block.
Wiseco Pistons , K1 rods , gen3 2.4 block , stock forged crank , arp head studs. Had everything Cryo'd and hear treated through my dads company. Also had a new KY S3 clutch Cryo'd.
5/09/10 was still driving the car just keeping it under 5k while I bought all the parts to make a built block , well the car randomly died while driving home. Would crank over , start stumble and then die immediately while throwing crank codes and cam position codes. Figured it was off time or timing chain broke.
5/14/14 put the car in the garage and started slowly pulling the motor
5/17/14 got the whole front clip off and had it resting on a wheel and tire for awhile because I couldn't figure out how to unhook the shifter.
6/01/14 finally got the clip out and everything disconnected , broke a couple things in the process so I still need to order that as of 6/26/14.
6/10/14 ordered Opel injectors and the ZZP stock can with fuel pump lobe. Hoping to be able to hit 500whp on E85 with this fuel setup. Put a bid on HPT on eBay as well so I can swap from a E85/e47 race tune to 93 mild tune for daily.
6/18/14 pulled the motor apart from the Trans and got it to my girlfriends dads who builds motors for a living.
6/20/14 he pulled the head off and most of the cylinders looked fine but cyl1 looked a little odd.
6/21/14 pulled the rotating assembly out and found out that cyl1 had most of the piston rings broke and the ringland had a huge chunk missing so that explains the issue. Cyl2 also had some hairline cracks. Surprisingly the block looks good so I plan on getting LDK pistons and rods and selling it as a replacement longblock for a cheap price.
6/26/14 sold my BNR2871 and kit and bought a dual bb 5857 .63ar, ZZP exhaust mani , Turbosmart wastegate and dump tube , New shortblock is going together the rotating assembly has been balanced. Next step is to pull the Trans off the cradle and take the wheels off the cradle and put the cradle back in the car. I plan on attaching the Trans and motor out of the car and then dropping it in the top. Just an idea for now. But that's where I'm at. Next purchase is deciding between retros or a ZZP fifth injector kit.

I payed a shop to fix the lash adjusters and the rocker arm that broke and they told me that they got all the debris from stuff breaking out of my motor. Well I found a lot of stuff when I took my oil pan off. Not very happy with that shop.

Your next purchase should be a John Powell 4.45 ratio F35 transmission. Also, why cryo a clutch, never heard that one before. What do you do for a living being able to afford all this lol, nice build though.

I really want a built 3.82 or 4.05 Trans but don't know if that's possible but maybe from FMSR , I don't like how the 4.45 kills top end speed once you really get going. And my dad owns a metal treating business and I've always had him cryo everything I could but a study they've done shows that cryoing helps it evenly disperse heat better and makes it create less heat. And I actually work at a Honda dealership as a lube tech I'm only 18 haha I've saved up a decent amount over the years and I've just been pouring my savings into this car which doesn't bother me because I love it , I am about out of money though I waiting paycheck to paycheck to buy the last few things I need

Last time I PM'd John, about a week or so ago, he had 4.45 gears in stock for builds.

Well my used 4.05 LSD is holding up to 26psi on the ZFR, so a build version might be alright. A 3.82 is roughly at 70mph at 3000rpms in 5th, 4.05 is at 75mph, 4.45 is at about 80mph. I wouldn't be scared of limiting my top end with a 4.45, the acceleration is nuts, you also have valve springs and can rev higher thus making more top end anyways. I thought that worked the opposite and I'd be at like 60 in 5th at 3000rpm with the 4.45's. I may just be dumb. But I got really stupid one time and raced a z06 and we were dead even and neither would let off and kept going until about 170 when we both let off , but I didn't wanna make my top speed like 150 with 4.45's

in that case , I also need to thank my mom and dad for both cosigning on my car loan and getting me a 2.35% interest rate haha that's about all they've helped with. Short term loan or two between paychecks so i could order stuff but that's it.

my Bridgestones are speed rated to 189 don't really want to test that though. Going 170 didn't feel like that fast at all in the cobalt , 140 in my GTI felt way faster. I doubt I'll ever run it past 170 though that is pretty ridiculous

Just a small update. Everything is ready to go together just need to drill and tap the feed and return ports for the turbo. And order a downpipe and oil lines. Still waiting on the wastegate and dump tube to get here. Hoping to have the motor back in really soon and then the long break in process begins
