that sucks that u have a nice turbo like that and only making what u can make stock on a cobalt to the wheels with a tune and some mods. rwd is lame for that reason only. awd is worse though

So I've had a sky for almost 3 and a half years now and yes I can confirm its the rear wheel drive train that kills a lot of the power. That being said, its not as bad as some people claim to say it is, they just might have a crappy tune. A fully bolted and stock turbo Cobalt SS turbo can put down what? 363WHP? When I had mine, on e47 and full bolt ons I made 363WHP and like 407WTQ.

With the sky and the same thing. Full bolt ons and e47 tuned on stock turbo, I put down 332RWHP and 399RWTQ So its not a huge difference, but there is definitely drivetrain loss.

I beleive it really has to do with the transmission itself. Its an Aisin AR5 and it comes out of the Chevy Colorado and the Hummer. Its a pretty heavy transmission but can hold TONS of power! That being said, because of the strength of it, it might have bigger gears and rotating assembly on the inside causing more umph to turn the whole thing. Thats just my opinion though.

With this being said, again, does anyone have any pictures of what they did to the wastegate to make this work on the sky or solstice? I really aim this question at the OP!

Also on this, I do agree the numbers are a bit on the low side but again dpends on tune. However, on the Kappa cars, we have one SHITTY stock intercooler as it is smaller than the total area of the cobalts intercooler and is a tube and fin design intercooler which flows horribly compared to bar and plate. The only good thing about the factory intercooler is that being tube and fin, the intercooler is very light weight!

Food for thought, a big intercooler thats bar and plate design on a fully bolted sky redline or solstice gxp can net a gain of about 27RWHP over factory intercooler! Thats just because it flows so much better and keeps air much cooler

Yes mostly this. The clutch, trans, drive shaft/s are very beefy and can take an EFR 6758 no sweat. I'm still on the stuck clutch on my GXP . The AR5 is a beefy transmission and was meant for towing in the Colorado, not to mention it is a derivative of the transmission found in the Supra. The stock wheels are also ungodly heavy on the Kappas, and the tires are heavier too due to the larger diameter (same width as Cobalt SS/TC, but wider sidewall).

I hear you loud and clear . I responded to your PM. I'll dig around for some pictures or go and take some and figure out a way to post them in here. The short answer is they modified the wastegate bracket to move it closer inward and used an offset block in the middle of the wastegate rod to compensate.

Bringing this thread back again. Why does ZZP not offer this kit for the Solstice GXP's? Maybe i'm missing it on their website? I have searched around on the solstice forums and had 0 luck finding any information. I would really like to use the ZFR-7163 on my "solstice" project. Does anyone have any information on this? From what I have found WERKS is the only company that has a "direct bolt on" turbo.

Hello,

This has actually been in the works for a little bit. We are currently working on a relocation bracket for the solstice/sky, amongst all of our other projects. but it will be out relatively shortly.
