I got this header from 383_stroker when I got my engine. He said I could have it for free, so I couldn't really say no. He said it was a prototype, I was wondering who's it might be. Has a remflex gasket and the welds don't look all that great but it looks decent overall. Sucks he cut the flange off, but it's no biggie since I'm getting a mid length header and catless dp in a week or two. Just was curious about it.

He had it tuned by somebody local, I'm assuming with hpt. no engine work done to it, revving to 8k with a 2.8, 60s, stock manifold and no cooling mods, NO WIDEBAND, not even when he had it tuned, which is what makes me scratch my head the most?? How did his tuner tune it without a way to check the afr?

That's my guess.

The guy I bought the car from told me he installed a gmpp clutch, how would I tell the difference between the stock clutch and the gmpp? id expect them both to be labeled with GM. I was wondering if he was a liar anyways. the fingers on the pressure plate were still very stiff, and the clutch is not down to the rivets or anything, so could I reuse it just like it is, hit it with an emery cloth maybe, or do I need to resurface the flywheel? I know these are basic questions, but if this clutch and pressure plate can last me a year that would allow me to save up for something better.

That is definitely a stock LSJ clutch.

He lied. That is a stock clutch.

Also, the tuner tuned the car based on the narrowband signal. No surprise it blew up.

so will the zzp1.0 get be fine for my I/H/DP/Exh 2.8 60s 93 setup, or will It make a difference with the tune not having cooling mods to start? a 100 bucks isn't bad if its worth my investment.

and I haven't looked at what a new clutch even looks like tbo, is this one too gone to even try to use, or should I just plan on a new one?

getting my cia header and zzp catless downpipe shipped soon after I pay for them this Friday. still gotta do CABs and clean up all these nasty funky parts I need to transfer to the good motor.

started to clean the oil pan from the blown motor to reuse it since my used motor came with the wrong model oil pan on it because he reused his lsj pan when he got a built motor.

Update 3/29/15

After tearing the car down about a month ago, I was starting to go into "rush" mode, you know when you want to get done so fast things get half-assed. That being said, I picked up everything cobalt related and pushed it all to one side of the garage. Besides cleaning up the parts that I'll need to reuse, all I've done is save money for parts to finish.

So far I've purchased:
Used LSJ engine
Modded stock air box
Vibrant header
Vibrant catt'd downpipe
GMPP cat back exhaust
Option B
N2mb wot box

Still need:
GMPP clutch/tob
GM flywheel
2 trans bolts that go thru oil pan
Injector seals
Oil cooler o-rings
Intake mani gasket
Wideband gauge
Aeroforce gauge for lsj
Front rotors/pads
Front/rear main engine seal
Rotated trans mounts
2 grippy as hell front tires

It's coming along, slowly but surely, I'm shooting to be done by mid may.

Thinking about getting a trifecta black box, does anyone have good or bad experiences?

I didn't know that, I thought I had to do the data-logging myself and they would remote tune me until it was right.

I know hpt is 500 bucks still, what other options do I have? I thought I could find someone local to me that has hptuners and buy credits?

I really think this car was tuned(before it blew)by James Rakes, gonna push the last owner for answers today.

Got the front/rear seals in, and have everything torqued on the engine except the ac compressor and main wiring harness. It's been a booger picking and sorting through the bags and boxes of removed parts, but I'm breathing easier now.

Got hooked up with a nice 2.8/60s base tune file from another member on here to get started with too.

Got my Aeroforce gauge yesterday from sunburstSS, gonna make an order to CED today, which includes.

Upgraded Clutch kit w/ clutch pipe
Flywheel bolts
Balancer bolt
Upgraded shift bracket

Anything y'all think I'm forgetting/should purchase from CED?
