HKS BOV questions

ok I've looked through the forums on here but can't seem to find my answers
this is my first turbo build I'm swapping my lsj to turbo btw.

1. is the HKS reliable i keep seeing back and forth on this
2. i plan on using zzp charge pipes are there a better options for this bov
3.ive seen some ppl say the flutter sound is just something these bovs do but that does not sound right

thanks guys

I'm assuming the HKS SSQV? I don't have a Cobalt anymore but I've been running a SSQV on my 300ZX for about 8 years now with no issues.

You need to do a MAF relocate and tune for it.

I have an SSQV4

It flutters on low boost. sounds awesome

However at WOT or higher boost i.e <15 psi it blows off like normal.

where is the maf relocation go on the cold side of the intercooler before the throttle body ?
and isn't the flutter damaging to the turbo? i only plan on mid 300s with my swap till my engine is built

Mine does have a little flutter at really low boost I can't really hear it due to where I have it mounted though

This is a common misconception.

Turbo flutter is NOT bad for your turbo. Even stock turbo, stock BPV cars have turbo flutter sometimes.

What IS bad for your car is surge. Surge is when the turbo is flowing more air than your head can ingest at a given RPM, and it doesn't sound anything like Flutter

What it sounded like was he kept his stock BPV hooked up and then hooked up his BOV

I'll make a video of mine when I leave here in about an hour to show you

I have the hks and the stock bpv, working with eachother since the charge pipe I picked up had it on there. We just t'd into the vacuum line running to the manifold, no blockoff plate.

Sounds like a bad way to do it.

Works fine and it was the only way I could set it up without flutter. I followed a how to on here that explained setting up the bov without a blockoff plate, but they t'd the line from the bpv into the line going to the charge pipe - so it'd be closed during boost ect. And then connect the bov originally where the bpv plugs into on the solenoid on the manifold.

For me anyway, just teeing into the vac line coming off the solenoid into the manifold worked best and the bov works in conjunction with the bpv. I can post a video.

I have my HKS connected directly to my Intake manifold. I blocked off the lower CP vacuum barb. Works like a charm

I meant to take a vid last night but I was in traffic the whole night and wouldn't of been able to do a pull. I will make sure to get one today

This is what I am going to do except I am going to use the lower CP bard to a mechanical boost gauge. RPD set to AFR and mechincal boost gauge is all I really need to see.

Thats a good idea

I tapped my intake manifold and installed a vacuum barb for a mech. boost gauge.

I was going to do that or go lower CP to vacuum block and then use that for anything else I may ever need.

I had a lot of issues with my BOV's when T'ing off the intake manifold. My Forge unit would flutter like a ************ until 20 psi. Sounded cool as **** but then it wouldn't close and before I swapped my maf to lower i would go into Limp mode.

That is why the vacuum block will be off of the lower CP and be a source for my boost gauge. I may try to run my BOV off it it to and see what happens.

I am buying a block off plate plate for my k04 now.

im wondering if you will get inaccurate readings because its not reading pressure from the intake manifold.

I know we have a TMAP in the lower CP, but we also have a normal MAP on our intake manifold to get absolute pressure inside the Intake Mani

Hmmm. Good point.

where does the line for the stock BPV come from?
