07blackg5 Build Thread. Operation Moneypit
I am already ***** deep in this project, but I will try to hit the major points. I'm mainly making this thread to get questions answered, but I will try to provide some sort of entertainment.
Got the car new off the lot. As it sat before I got started is:
-Gt bumper and lips with ss front lip, oem fogs
-tjin trunk
-gen 4 projectors, tinted corners/reverse/3rd brake
-bc coilovers
-ottp longtube header
-zzp catback
-2.4 intake mani
-fe5 control arms with
-ottp tcabs
-ottp rear sway
-prothand trans inserts
-NX n2o kit with wotbox for window switch
-custom intake (half ebay, half weapon R)
-17x9 wheels with 245/40 tires
-SSBC front and rear kit
I started of with goals of an 11:1 m62 build, but just recently steered to a TVS and factory 10:1 comp.
Build list is as follows:
-full 6 rib swap
-tvs
-option b/dual pass
-zzp stealth h/e
-zzp radiator
-lsjion ported head
-zzp s2 blower cams
-Perf Autowerks valvesprings
-stock gen 2 block (07 was gen2)
-wiseco pistons
-eagle rods
-ATI od
-zzp nbs
-GM main and rod bearings
-zzp phenolic spacer
-ls4 tb
-spec flywheel and stage 3+ clutch
-ID1000's
-lsj fuel rail
-ottp return fuel
-aem 320 e85 pump
-a/c delete
Hoping for close to 400 on the blower, and either a 35 or 50 shot depending on how close to 400 I am.
Here is how the car sits as is in terms of cosmetics.
I have a lot of pictures of the brake installs and whatnot, but thats all pretty normal stuff. Since I have an 07, the head is slightly different than the previous l61's. The cams need to be cut, and a sensor needs to be pressed on. There was a lot of ruckus about the process, but I decided to do it myself.
lol
Comparing the new cam journal to the oem cam sensor location:
old vs new:
The exhaust cam needed to be trimmed as well, but this is both installed:
Right as winter was starting, I started playing with nitrous jets and afr, as well as nozzle placement. I have a full spare longblock, so I didnt care if I blew it up.
Welp, blew up cyl 4 haha:
This is where the bay sits as of this week. I actually have the radiator and fan pulled already. The random wires are a horn relay, the foglight relay, and the wotbox wires that were originally hidden under the fusebox. that will all be cleaned up:
That should be enough for tonight. I have a few questions lined up, but will wait until tomorrow.

They are rota grid's. 17x9 +45 with a 5mm spacer in the front to clear the strut. They loog gunmetal in the picture but they are dark grey with a very fine silver flake. You cant really get a good picture of it.
I finally felt bad enough for shitting all over yours haha

First question.
The 2.2 ecu only has provisions for iat1 signals. What people have done in the past (from my understanding) is remove the temp signal wire from the MAF, and move it to the MAP (factory 2.2 map wont read temps, again from my understanding iat1 is read at the maf). That way the ecu can read the intake temp post intercooler.
I would no longer have a pre-intercooler signal, and wouldn't be able to easily tell the difference between iat1's and 2's. I have dual interceptors, and they can be wired to accept additional 0-5v signals for extra parameters. I assume that the the maf temp signal is 0-5v like the rest of the car. Does anyone knowledgeable about the electronics of these cars chime in? I figure I can run the maf temp signal wire to the interceptor as a custom input, so that it would display my "custom" iat1 reading and iat2(registering as iat1 in the ecu)

Honestly I'm thinking about picking up an 07+ head and cams/springs/porting it. Someone bought the cheap supercharger I was going to go for. Maybe I can get bigger injectors and a ported head and run some E85 for now. There is only one E85 station nearby. I can't seem to find a used head for under $200 though.

Yep. I bought one to disassemble a pair of sbc heads I got for my Nova. Ported one of those so far but cast iron is a bitch and a half to get anywhere with. Focusing on the suspension on that car for right now. Have tubular LCAs and coilovers, and everything except rotors and brackets to swap 14"/13" front/rear disc brakes on it.

Let me know if you want it.
I found a few random pictures that might be interesting. From right before dom and the mad scientist had to tear down the block and replace the piston rings i fried..
cyl 1 and 4
l61tb vs ls4
some custom tweeter sails I made for my re xxx's
ZZP vs my old vibrant
old wheels after ssbc install
Had to change my coilover cartridges and the one collar was seized. had to drill out the pressure and cut it in half. no way the collar was making it all the way down the body

I have a complete lsj head with 58k on it, not sure if I want to keep it yet, just depends on if this 2.8 will scratch my itch for a while. I could use the money towards other parts for sure. If I ever want to go faster ill probably kick myself for selling the head though. The last fwd car I had was an sc2, so if its 300% more thrill without going crazy with the car, I probably wont need a garage full of old parts.

You could make it work, but its a lot of extra hassle. just random things like the cam sensor differences, the pcv ports flipped around, etc. The only thing with the 07-08 l61 head is that there is no bolt hole for the lsj fuel rail hardline support, but that is easily worked around. you will probably just use the oem rail, so it wont be an issue. as far as I understand, the l61 and lsj heads flow very similar stock for stock, but the lsj has nicer casting and what not. Once they are ported, im not sure there would be much of a difference.
