2006 Cobalt (2.2L) p0340

Hey everyone,

Got a CEL today, pulled the code through torque and the fault code came back as p0340, camshaft position sensor "A" circuit (Bank 1 or single sensor).

Anyone have experience with this code, from what I read the 2006 cobalts don't have a camshaft position sensor and I replaced my spark plugs about a year ago with OEM ACdelco. Hoping someone will chime in, but in the meantime I will continue to browse the forum.

Does it have the original engine and ECU? You read correct. 2006 L61 Cobalts do not have camshaft position sensors.

Hi jdbaugh1, it has original engine and ECU. Yeah I also ended up looking in my engine the other night and verified there is no camshaft position sensor. On a unrelated note there is however a crankshaft sensor near the engine oil filter.

To add to this post my idle is rough, yet smooths out when accelerating. I also hear a whine noise the gets subtly louder during acceleration. At first I thought it was the blower motor but when I unplugged it I still was hearing the noise. I doubt it's the alternator as I replaced that as preventative maintenance <5,000 miles ago.

Not sure if the two are related... I did change the heating and air conditioning air inlet actuator (ACDelco 15-73513) because every time I started the car I would hear a clicking sound by the glove box. Replacing the part did fix the clicking noise.
When I press the re-circulation button it is blowing cold air as if the ac is on? Anyone have an idea as to why my car is doing this?

AC automatically turns on when you enable re-circulation or defrost. I assume this is to prevent humidity from accumulating inside the cabin.

Shouldn't the AC only be on if the AC button is pressed? When I press the recirculation button the AC light never turns on, my thoughts in that case are that the reciruclated air should be at car temperature?

No. AC automatically turns on when you enable re-circulation or defrost. You're temperature knob still controls the temperature. The AC compressor runs to dehumidify the air in the case of recirculation, not to cool the output temps though it can do that as well if you have your temp selection on cold. When recirculation is enabled fresh air is no longer brought into the cabin. This can cause humidity to build up because the occupants of the car are constantly putting off humidity when they breath and sweat. Humid air doesn't feel nice and it can cause your windows to fog up so they use the AC to keep the humidity down. AC light doesn't come on because they didn't want people to trip out about it.

Thanks for chiming in jdbaugh1.

I ended up clearing the code to see if it would pop back up... it hasn't thus far.

The whining noise ended up being alternator whine :/. Use a new ground point for the amplifier and it went away. Super weird how it was only coming from the passenger side speaker.

Some one asked if the ECM an engine were the original ..
An that brings me to ask..
Is that why u would get an error code 0349 for camshaft sensor when the original motor doesn't have a camshaft sensor? Because one or the other the ecm and or motor aren't original ?
