Supernovanator's "what did I get myself into" build thread

The car: 2008 G5. Already has:

Shorty Header
ZZP catted downpipe
2.5" catback with magnaflow glasspack as resonator and twin loop muffler
FE5 springs/struts/control arms with spherical bushings
Have a FE5 front bar sitting on the porch
Also made my own custom tails.

PLANS

SC
2.8
42s or 60s
phenolic spacer
dual pass with option B
port the **** out of the supercharger
attempt to put a 6.0 throttle body on it because it has the same pinout as my current TB, and is 80mm

Bought this the other day. It was dirty as **** inside, but whatever:

I have this horrible condition where I only see things for what I can make them into, not what they currently are. So I took it apart. The coupler is still perfect, but will probably get the upgraded one from ZZP. Rotor case is pretty rough, but not unfixable. I cleaned it a little before moving to the manifold. MAF cleaner was my friend here.

Also took a wire wheel to the case a little bit:

Now on to the HORRIBLE manifold. Everything about it was horrible. Deep inside, it was clear there was an oil problem with the car before. I took the pressure washer to the inside of the manifold once I had the Laminovas out.

Some ******* put what seemed like stop leak in it. The endplate gasket was no good anymore so I'm pretty sure that's what he did, whoever did it. It felt like rubber or plastic or wax inside.

Laminovas wouldn't move, had to use some force. Got them out and saw this:

Then proceeded to turn them all into this:

And here's what was left. It was crystal clear when I started.

Good to see you doing this! Need a heat exchanger by chance? Just put a front mount up for sale.

Always a good idea to clean parts once you get them so they are like new when installed

Thanks! Going to need a heat exchanger eventually, but after buying this I don't want to spend much until I save more. I could take from my savings but that's not smart. Gonna take my time here.

YES, DO. You don't want that **** looking like this did. And while you are doing that you may as well do a dual pass.

Good to know! I was hesitant because 60s are a pain to tune for. I don't know if I want to install a return style fuel system or not, but that would help me stay at 43psi instead of the 58psi I am now. Gonna need to get some forged pistons and rods I suppose.

Dual pass is just the end plate and the laminova core swap around, option b is just a coolant recovery tank instead of the fill cap.

Don't worry I'm not a *******. My porting will be focused on the supercharger inlet. Mainly want to make room for the LSx throttle body.

Ideally yes. The kit from ZZP doesn't include option B though.

So who here did that? I wish there were more research on maximizing flow with M62, but it all seems like mostly guess work and theories.

I think jacob in the 2.4 forum was going to buy it off a guy in cali who SWORE it made a **** ton more power then the stock supercharger, which is just a flat out lie. I'm not gonna start a flame thread for you but like i said when I got **** about the calling out the port jobs sold on here in the classifieds, if there was some magic way of making more power by changing the way the supercharger works, pretty sure eaton would have been on top of it before some random guy in a forum. Apply the concepts of what you already know about airflow to the intake side of the blower and you should make it a wee bit more efficient, smooth radius's and increasing the overall size of the inlet will get you a bit there, but trying to redesign the outlet IMO is pseudoscience.

Only real advice i can give you is choose your tools wisely, and scribe the outline of the LS4 TB that you need to get an exact size. Since you can precision mill the blower housing out for the TB, you want that inlet to be as round as possible, similar to porting a cylinder head, scribing will give you a guide to follow. Then its just like a coloring book, just stay inside the lines. lol

Who said anything about an LS4? This is what I'm hoping to pick up at some point.

The LS4 77mm throttle body is from 6cyl trailblazers, gxp, etc. The one I want to experiment with are 80mm from the 5.3L trucks and SUVs. The difference is the 5.3/6.0 throttle body has the same connector as my 2008 throttle body does so if I can make it fit, it will be plug and play and I won't have to **** with soldering or an adapter. Plus it is a little bigger.

As far as my research has concluded, yes. Exactly the same. And the throttle body scalar goes up to 8191 in HPT, so no problem adjusting for it either.

Does anyone know what the o-ring to o-ring height is for stock injectors? I have a lead on some 52lb injectors with dual spray pattern designed for 4v engines, but they are 48.5mm o-ring seat to seat, 53.5mm o-ring centerline to centerline, and 65.5mm total length.
