Canada 2.4L VVT supercharging

Hey guys,

First time poster long time reader.

Just a couple questions involving getting the factory supercharger popped under the hood of my 06 Cobalt SS N/A.

Now I have read some posts saying use the search button when it comes to supercharging these things but I haven't really been able to locate what I'm looking for. Most likely my wording isn't matching up.

What I'm looking to do is drop the factory s/c into my car since I'm able to get it for fairly cheap. Im just looking for some info on how different, if at all, the 2.4l in the N/A model is to the engine in the s/c model.

Will the stock internals be able to handle it or are there parts I need to change?

Are the ECM's the same computer just tuned differently or do I ned the ECM and harness from a s/c model?

Intake manifold need to be replaced?

I am able to get my hands on the S/C, the manifold, ecm and heat exchanger. Just want to make sure these need to be replaced before i pay for them. Again fairly new and trying to s/c this engine so just looking for some info into what I need to put the stock s/c into my n/a model.

Thanks in advance!

1. I have found that using google for the search is sometimes better than the site's search, and about 90% of the time the google search leads me right to the thread on here.

2. The LSJ 2.0 and LE5 2.4 are very similar in ways and can interchange SOME parts, not all.

3. The 2006-2007 2.4 came with forged internals just like the LSJ, so yes they can handle the S/C. I believe they are rated around 300hp.

4. You will need the LSJ intake manifold, throttle body, among other things.

I will post a few links that should help you out...

- This is a link to ZZP's SC kit, which has a list of what you need for the swap.
2.2/2.4L Bolt on Supercharger Kit - Superchargers & Eaton Parts

- This is Beck's how to on SCing a 2.4 (which also includes a parts list)

Yeah I have tried googling and I came across becks but thats all aftermarket parts and more looking for what comes on the upgraded version of my car. BUT again fairly new to this so I'm diving into those links as I write haha!

Thanks so much on the info on the internals thats good news for once with one of my projects lol, any idea on the ecm? If it needs to be swapped or can be tuned at a dealer to support the new ratios?

ecu's are totally different between lsj and le5. so don't try to swap them. the le5 is lucky enough to have full support with tuning from both hptuners and efi live, because the ecu is used in a few of the ls motors. so that is a bit of a plus in my mind. I would straight up trade my lsj for an 05-06 le5 if my car wasn't so ragged out right now. id love to have full tuning capabilities

but anyways, all you need is a retune to get an sc kit running in the le5.

Exactly, you will use the LE5 ecm and have it tuned. From what I've seen the best way to tune is using HPTuners, but you can also use Trifecta. Research those and decide what you think is best.

Not sure how many miles are on your engine but you may consider doing a compression test to make sure the engine is in good health before slapping a blower on it.

Best way is EFI Live, little cheaper and not quite as good is HPTuners

Efi live is more expensive. I haven't looked in to efi live much, only because it's support for the lsj is virtually non existent. The le5 parameters are fully unlocked though just like hptuners. Other than that though, I know little about efi live

Motor will handle it fine. I used to be 300+whp S/C setup and now im on 400+whp turbo on stock internal LE5.

You need all LSJ supercharger parts. Belt and intake items. I would recommend using LSJ 2.5 bar MAP sensor too.

You dont need ECM because you can tune the one you have.

The LE5 is a 5rib belt system....can he get all the accessory pulleys aswell from a LSJ to make everything 6 rib?

if he can you'll need tensioner, idler pulley, a/c compressor, harmonic balancer, alternator

Hey

Just read about the pulley swap from stock to ZZP modular. Am I the only one worried that it just pressed on and no lock ring or anything? Just simply presses on? I would think the hub would spin on the supercharger shaft.

well, just about every gm power steering pump in existance has the pulley pressed onto it and there are no problems there either. as mentioned above, all stock eaton superchargers, not just in our application, use a pressed on pulley from the factory.

Looks like it... Your belt will slip before the pulley ever does.

Anything is possible my friend, you set your own the limitations. "Easy" is a relative term. For a beginner person with no mechanical skills, in-theory the "TORQAMP" supercharger might be the easiest way to supercharge a car in the year 2020 at nearly the cost of purchasing all of the LSJ supercharger. There is a trade-off, the million dollar developed LSJ powertrain is far superior in the long-run. If you do heavy car repair work, then don't let us get in your way and git it done!
