car popping through exhaust at 6k rpm

Ok so friday night, I went out with my car club to a car meet. When we decide to split this guy with a RSX asks if I want to run. He said he was boosted, and had full bolt ons. I agreed and so we were off, we line up and punch it. He gets a car length on me and then I start creeping on him and when I hit 6k rpm my car starts popping out the exhaust pretty much like a 2step setup would. So I immediately let off and call it quits for the day. One of the guys said spark blow out, so I gapped them at .30 instead of .32 and it worked. Car didn't pop like a mad man at 6krpm and worked fine.

Yeah, that's why his sig says 2.4/SC, yet in his garage it say future turbo. Guys not sure what he is.
