intake vs exhaust

Im hoping to order my first aftermarket part or parts sometime soon and Ive been debating on which to get first. Im thinking either going with an intake or saving a little extra and doing a header and catback. Not that I think getting one first over the other would really be that big of a difference but was kinda looking for some opinions

If you want short ram intake I would go with the k/n typhoon intake and for a cold air intake I would choose injen. Both give about the same amount of hp it basically comes down to do you want more low end power and throttle response with the short ram or more mid range and high end power with the cai.

Thanks for the info . Im pretty sure Im gonna go with the k&n. Id get more use out of the low end and throttle response cause its not very often Im getting into the top end and stuff like that. Just feel it would be more suited for me and the red light to red light racing

Excellent choice I have the k/n myself and I luv it. Also if wanna go cheap for your catback you can get the cti 2.5 inch over the axel piece which will replace the 2.25 inch section of your stock piping and then buy a performance muffler like dynomax, magnaflow, borla etc.

Eh if I go boost, Im def going with the ZZP bolt on supercharger kit. Everyone goes turbo anymore which dont get me wrong I like em but Id rather have the SC for the low end and the torque.

let's get something straight you got the low end of a 2.4 not 2.0 so you're not missing out. my modded tuned 2.2 can break em lose before traction takes hold so a tuned 2.4 shouldn't have a problem there. with a turbo you're gonna get power for naught with a blower it's gonna rob that 2.4 of some energy to rotate. your call but in the end the turbo owns the blower for this particular app. yeah you can use it but it's gonna take a crap load of cooling mods and possibly an upgraded blower to keep up with even the the most modest of turbo builds.

although you may have a point, im not lookin for a ton of power either so for me it doesnt matter "how much power i make" take no offense cause dont wanna make it sound that way. a little more push is all i really want if i do end up going with boost.

if you looking for push then by all means go sc, nothing like that whine. if you wanna pull like a frieght train turbos your bet. i was gonna get the zzp stg2 sc kit but opt'd for the stg2 turbo kit cause i love the turbo spool and bov sound a little more then the sc whine and i'm a speedfreak in the end.

oh i understand. both sounds are pretty sweet, haha.

how much did you end up paying for the stg2 turbo kit? if you dont mind me asking. the turbo kit with the stg2 seems to run higher then the SC kit

you should be fine with the stage 2 kit on a 2.4 the 2.2s are a bit weaker from what ive read. ZZPs own 2.4 auto car put down 356fwhp on the stock engine (might of had valve springs unsure off hand)

But yeah I agree do intake first. I bought a header and was about to buy a downpipe but ive decided when income tax comes so will the zzp stage 2 kit (with 60lbs injectors and a front mount instead of the liquid intercooler)

^^^ yeah income tax time is a great time to do upgrades. I'm thinking that's when my header and exhaust will come.

Which for my header I was lookin at the obx one. Would I need to have a high flo cat with it? Cause I thought someone said there was a cat in the downpipe which the obx has a downpipe so kinda wanted to check so I know if I need anything extra.

Honestly Id go ZZP or OTTP. I have a zzp shorty on right now but previously had a mid length from zzp on my car and it definitely had a noticeable difference in top end power over the shorty.

Im unsure on the ottp long tube as i havent honestly been keeping up with the cobalt scene lately but if your planning on sc over tc then the mid length or long tube id think would be better options.

btw I had the 1 3/4 zzp mid length with the 3 inch collector and 3 inch catted downpipe (honestly a bit too big for an NA 2.4) and off idle torque was hurt but videos back up the proof that I was indeed faster with that than the shorty setup.
