Engine Revs up when I Press the clutch in?

Engine Revs up when I Press the clutch in?
From time to time when I am driving my car when I go to push the clutch in the car revs up about .5k rpms and holds it there from where I engaged the clutch until I shift and the car then kind of jerks into gear unless I let the clutch out very slowly. It just doesn't feel natural and sounds weird when I shift. I have no idea what can be causing this. I also have a check engine light for the code P0172. May this have anything to do with it?
