Cobalt Turbo > Cruze ECO
#26
I recently purchased a silver ice metallic / black interior Cruze ECO with connectivity package. I am trading up/down (however you wish to look at it from a 09 Cobalt SS.) The car is yet to be in my possession. It is still in transit. Actually I haven't driven it actually. The deal won't be "finalized" until I drive it, but number crunching is done. I have read numerous reviews on the car and feel confident I will be satisfied. Pics will follow soon...
Reasons I switched:
Much better gas mileage 28/42
no premium gas required
lower maintenance (no syn oil needed, cheaper longer lasting tires)
I really could benefit from 4 doors.
better looks???
I will still visit cobaltss.net, but maybe not as often. I can also be found at cruzetalk .com

I'm ok if not everyone is in agreement with my choice, but I am the one driving it, so that is what matters. Also a minivan won't run me, because I won't be running them. In the matter of looks, that is personal opinion and yes I like the overall look of the car better, this is not counting features the lnf has such as skirts and such, and large diameter wheels. As far as power, doesn't matter to me. I cruise more often than I accelerate, and would rather trade the power for a little more ride comfort and better economy. As far as having to use synthetic oil, I will re research this.

I don't blame you for getting rid of the balt if performance isn't your top priority. But did you atleast test drive one first?
And why are people posting specs for a mini van? Who the **** cares.....

I hope you enjoy it because I'll tell you, the automatic SUCKS...I was disappointed. I really like everything about the Cruze EXCEPT that my Cobalt LS auto has more kick than the Cruze auto. The girl I'm seeing just picked up a Cruze 1LT and I drove it the other day. It handles relatively well, but it isn't that great in my opinion for ride comfort. I'm not trying to compare it to anything outside it's class (in terms of size or luxury), but I found the two disappointing things to be the lack of power and the ride quality.
I wanted to buy one because I thought it would be a huge upgrade from my Cobalt (I love power, but I have never owned a powerful car and the Cobalt is the quickest I've owned to date). I have only done things to my Cobalt to make it more enjoyable for me and to get better gas mileage out of it.
I think the manual ECO might fix the problem I find with the lack of power (however the gearing is set up different in the tranny to accommodate the fact that it's for economy rather than speed). I think to be happy with the car I would have to change the suspension and at least get the car tuned (if not open up the intake/exhaust a little)...hopefully all of that would help me enjoy it plus get even better mileage, but alas I am disappointed myself.
I DO love the interior and the styling and the quality of the car. GM has come extremely far with that. I will hold out for the Sonic to come out and hopefully they'll have a performance variation of the Cruze/Sonic that will be more to my liking while being in a reasonable price range as well.

Lol... all those specs make me want to go and get a minivan...
after all they're faster than the LT I own...
But, I think his point is he wants mpg's not 1/4 miles... his priorities have changed...
I grabbed the LT over the SS sitting on the dealership floor because of mpg's not because of speed... Its overall more economic for me to have stuck with the lt... so thats what I did... I know if I would have grabbed the SS i'd be mashing the peddle every minute of everyday... all the time... and also have a need to rev match everything... lol
I think the point is I'd like to save my $ with rediculous gas prices in the 4 dollar range... I fill up bout once a week and am netting 27-28 mpg's (mixxed city mixxed highway) with just a regular cobalt... I couldn't imagine what I'd be getting with a cruze...
Although I will say I feel for the few mpg's more the cruze gets in the city I feel it is a bit of a compromise in terms of performance... it could have better numbers than what it does and still get gas mileage almost as good... (regular ford focus...)

The hundred times or so my car has been at the dealer getting various things replaced, I have always been stuck with an auto Cobalt LS, and I got WORSE mileage in that thing than in my SS. I get 19 in my SS in mixed driving, and was getting 18 in the POS rental. Have to basically hold it to the floor 100% of the time just to move.

One of the things I like most about the Cruze over my Cobalt is the seats...then again I have an LS so maybe if I swapped for SS seats I'd be happier?
I like the adjustments for lumbar and bottom seat height though in the Cruze.
And yeah if all you do in an auto 2.2 is hold the accelerator down, you will have shitty mileage....my auto with mods and tune is decently peppy (read as NOT quick/fast, but PEPPY)...and getting 25+mpg while mashing it isn't hard at all.

I noticed the driver seat has the most room, the front passenger seat is ok but my arm/elbow was too close to the shifter. The rear seats are fine, but where the foot well is, SUCKS ASS. The seat rails for the front seats are RIGHT where I want my feet to be and the eco has no folding arm rest.
