I believe the reason they ditched the Cobalt were due to sales dropping adn the fact that most people atrributed it to the Cavaliers older brother. the cavaliers had 2.2 ecos in them for the last few years. i love my j bodys i had two, before i bought my SS/NA.

the Cruze looks nothing like a cobalt or cavy, and has a new drivetrain. i think thats what GM was going for. hope it works for them. id like to see more powertrain options and such, but i dont plan on buying one anyways

Honestly, I like the new Cruze alot. Didn't care much for it at first, but it grew on me, and after driving a few, I like them alot. Especially if they bring out that hatchback one.. But I'd still be hesitant about it being a typical cheap GM piece of ****.

4,000 miles in and so far its not showing any signs of poor quality. the traction/stability on this car is really nice too - makes driving in NY winters a little more enjoyable

I talked to a gm dealer yesterday and he said they only sold one. I cant believe they even ended the cobalt. Look on the roads and you will see all kinds of balts. It had to be gm's best selling vehicle and then they replace it with a 138hp car that the dealer said gets 3 more mpg than the turbo. I dont understand it. Plus the are ugly as hell. Put the lnf in it and the sales will pick up for sure.

If people are going to pay that much for an economy car, they're going to go for a Civic or Corolla that has a more proven track record.
Not at ALL! 10 air bags (Civic only has 6), triple wall door seals, 5 layer headliner, laminated glass, sound deadening materials all around. 6speed automatic, 1.4L Turbo, 42mpg eco model, 28/36mpg LT model, best interior bar none in its class, midsize car interior space with civic-size dimensions.

5year 100k powertrain warranty.

This car is NOT aimed at car enthusiasts like us that want sport compacts, R32's, GTO's, STI's, EVO's, 5.0's etc. It's aimed a 16-60 year old demographic that wants a super quiet, very comfortable, nice handling (not BMW racerboy), fuel efficient easy to see out of and safe vehicle.

Ignorance is bliss,

And finally someone gets it. Most people on this board will not like this car because they want to go fast. Thats NOT what GM wants out of the cruze.

Not saying it isn't a much better car than the Cobalt- but with buying both of my "closeout" 09 automatics at 11k brand new each, I couldn't justify buying just one car for 22k.
Warrantys were exactly the same as the Cruze.
My G5 XFE is a freeway only commuter, and gets almost 40 mpg. I don't see better numbers with the "new and improved" product.

Thats cool but, its not that much better gas mileage and now you have to get a camaro to have any performance. I mean 138 horsepower!!!, this is 2011 not 1976! At least they could have gave it a little umph. They already have an aveo now they just have a bigger aveo called a cruze.

i agree with you Jeff, but we aren't the market they're looking for, and with the 6 spd the ratios allow the car to still move fairly well.

im sure there will be plenty of aftermarket for the 1.4T in the very near future. and they make lowering spring and such for the cars already, now if only they didn't change the lug pattern again!

It's an 09. I'd sure hope it'd be ok still.

Wait for a few years until the rattles and squeaks that you can't fix set in..

You do realize that 138 hp is competitive in its class dont you? Focus has 136 or 140 hp. Civic has 140. Corolla has 132. Are they all stuck in 1976 too?

Ok we all know it's a Eco car but holy moly gm screwed us with the new buck regal gs no awd.
Second all gm has is the Camaro for us youngsters and Mayb some who can afford the vette in our age range. as it stands they have no sport compact and that is bad

the cruze is a mediocre grandma car.
Nothing great pops out about it that makes buyers interested.
