How do you take that front license plate holder off!?

I can't figure out how to take this damn front license plate holder off. It appears to be rivoted on there.

Anyone have an easy way to get this off? I'd hate to take the bumper off already.

We took it off my '04 Cavy before. You actually have to carefully drill them out. That's what we did anyway, then fill the holes with descrete looking screws. Unless you can get to the inside of the rivots and grind away that part, but doubtful. That's why I requested my SS/SC without the front bracket, even tho its the law. They didn't install it for me. I have it aside just in case.

They didn't "unscrew". They are put on with rivots. Oh, you mean that you will just take off your plate and leave your bracket on? You still have the issue of the ugly front bracket being on.

We just use some nice flush screws. Better than the holes there. That was on our '04 Cavys.

Just got pulled over last night for not having a front plate. When I bought my car the bracket was in the trunk and was told I didn't need a front plate...he only installed the rear plate and never gave me the front... we'll see what they have to say when I bring in my warning that I was given...

So how about a How do you install that front license plate holder lol...

front plate removal

First thing you have to do is get a center punch or something that will punch the middle pin out of the rivit believe me it will be easier than trying to just drill out the rivit because the center part is a harder metal give it a couple of good smacks and you will notice the pin moving inward keep going until the pin is out then you can drill the head of the rivit out get a drill that is bigger than the center pin you punched out.. I had to replace 3 of my electric window motors on my cavalier and they use basically the same rivit.. this is the easiest way.. hope this helps. you will notice alot of things are held together these days by these rivits

There are 3 pre marked little dimples in the shape of a triangle you drill them out
(1/4'' bit) and get 3 plastic rivots from your dealer and you use them to hold the plastic holder on the car.
Very easy to do should take less then 5 minutes.

How about somehow mounting it behind the bumper so then its still visible but without the ugly bracket.

Has any one checked to see if they can be cut off from the back? maybe with a pair of linemens and just snip off the ball? Just an idea.

Fastening the front license plate

Does anyone have a front license plate (in those states the require you to have one) that has no top screws or screw holes? My bracket has only two bottom screws, so the license plate and cover flap out and look sloppy. It looks like this:
\|
The slant being the license plate and the vertical line being the bumper. How do I fix this? I assume I'd have to drill some holes, but it sounds like a hassle to remove the bracket, drill, and put it back on. I'm afraid if I drill with it on there, I'll get my bumper all jacked up. Anyone else have this problem?

you should just be able to throw screws in the top holes

I say just buy and register your Cobie in Florida. No front plates, no emissions inspections, no amber lights laws, hell yeah!

Well if there are people here that want the license plate but dont want to have to drill into the bumper, and want to have the ability to take the bracket off, I know there are some companies out there that have brackets that hang from the inside. Like it screws in behind the top of like our opening and it hangs down and the license plate would sit in the opening we have by our radiator. Not sure about the company though
