difference between a 2006 ss and lt/ls/ltz

Could somebody pin point this for me. A friend and myself were discussing this matter and he claims the ss is a normal cobalt...just badged.

Now....I'm not a man of arguing so I just said... "really..." I just got this car (ss) and I thought the difference was that....

-different front and rear bumper
-Chrome exhaust tip finish
-2.4 engine instead of 2.0
-ss suspension
-leather wrapped steering wheel with controls
-17 in polished wheels on perellis

The 1st 2 are obvious, but am I right?

And the supercharged version came with...
Leather upholstery + seats
Lipkit
Supercharger (of course)
And hi rise spoler

Tell me if I'm right/wrong. Thanks.

the SS/NA came with 17s SS rims....thats why they fit on the SS/TCs they are also 2.4 171hp i believe whereas LT/LS/LTZ are all 2.2 145hp the SS/SC comes with the lip kit an 2.0 supercharged engine makin 205hp with 18s SS rims there are slight differences an if you know them you can spot what it is right away the SS/NA can come either manual or automatic whereas the SS/SC only comes manual YEA!

an to answer your question all cobalts are unique IMO but SS' are 2.4 where as LS/LT/LTZ are 2.2 all in all 2.4(171hp) > 2.2(145hp) plus the SS' just look better DAMN!

The LS LT LTZ and XFE all have a 2.2l engine
The SS/NA has a VVT 2.4l engine
The SS/SC has a 2.0l super charged engine
The SS/TC has a 2.0l direct injection turbo charged engine.

the LS LT and XFE have 4 bolt wheels where as the LTZ(i think thats what its called) and all SS's have 5 bolt wheels

SS/NA's have 5 spoke polished 17's
SS/SC's have 5 spoke polished or gunmetal 18's
SS/TC's have split 5 spoke silver 18's

the SS/SC and TC are available with LSD transmission

The SS/NA and SS/TC come in bot coupe and sedan where as the SS/SC only came in coupe.

The SS/SC and SS/TC only come with manual transmissions(for now)

Thats all i got right now

People keep mentioning SS/SC 2.0 205HP
It is rated 205BH from GM but actually puts down ~215whp.The 2.2 and 2.4 are not under rated from the factory.

really????? That would be great. I test drive an HHR Turbo automatic last night and really like the LNF--and it worked well with the automatic.

I'd love a daily driver with power

Also the SS/TC engine has VVT and in 2008 the 2.4L SS was renamed Sport to help clear up the confusion between the 2.4L and 2.0L engines, which is what they should have done to begin with imo.

Probably should mention the SS models all came with 4-wheel disks and not rear drums like the others.

Yeah we say 205 cause that is the base so there is no reason to say 215 whp cause others got less then that

What do you mean that is the base (factory under rating?)Yes, some have more and some have less, what I mentioned was rather "average". I would bet no SS/SC has been on a dyno that got a WHP that would equivilate to 205BHP on a correct reading dyno.

i never under stud why the called the ss/na a ss... it should be a Z24 thats the way did it back in the day. then again they did have the ss and the ss/rs, but they also had the z28. right.
Maybe its saves a few bucks to just have 1 badge style

I think just about everything is different.
pertaining to the ss/sc compared to like an ls,
Engine: 2.0s/c vs. 2.2
twin cam, others dont
lsd transmission
tighter suspension, stronger brakes
thats about it performance/wise, unless u note that ss s/c was only manual and 2 door wich saves weight

exterior:
all other cobalts look like **** compared to the ss, ss has 215/40r18 wheels, whole ground effects package, sits lower, and has that pornographic spoiler (usless though it is being fwd), also they came in fewer, but better, colors. i think the taillights look slightly different from the other ones too, but could be wrong. and the exhaust tip. whole exhaust, actually. Also, i don't THINK the other cobalts come with moonroofs, maybe the XLE or w/e

interior: ss comes either with ss stiched seats or recaro stitched seats. mine are 2 tone. ss emblem on the dash, overall just a little nicer than the regular one. and u can't forget the nice little stock boost gauge on the a pillar, it kind of adds to the whole experience lol

thats about all i can think of, but overall, minus the headlights, the ss is a COMPLETELY different car. i wouldnt b caught dead in a different one

I believe they dropped the 2.4 ss engine in 07.

The 08+ sport I believe has only a 2.2 in it. However still has everything else including the upgraded suspension and body kit. of the ss NA

Perhaps someone could confirm this.

That would be a neat swap to a Balt.
