cleaning maf
I am going to take out my kn filter, and clean my maf sensor to see if that solves my hesitation issues
Can i gently spray it with brake clean or do i need a special MAF cleaner?
thanks

I would say take it out so that you 1.have a better chance of cleaning it compleatly and 2. don't just blow the crap down further in the intake. BUT how many miles do you have on it? It shouldn't get dirty very fast.

we used to clean them with brake kleen as part of a failed emissions diagnoses, jsut make sure the cleaner is all off and you should be fine.... Good Luck!!

Time to open a dead thread. I think something is wrong with my MAF. Im getting a Too Rich CEL with 60's and i use a K&N CAI.
A mass airflow sensor is used to determine the mass of air entering the engine. The air mass information is necessary to calculate and deliver the correct fuel mass to the engine. Air is a gas, and its density changes as it expands and contracts with temperature and pressure. In automotive applications, air density varies with the vehicle's operating environment, and is an ideal application for a mass sensor.

What do your long term fuel trim values look like?
MAF sensors have a self cleaning ability that really shouldn't need touched unless you just went muddin or something.

Being that far off, it sounds more like the tune rather than the MAF. You would probably go into limp mode or at least throw a MAF sensor performance code. The PCM checks airflow sensor readings against the SCIP to BARO , MAP, and TPS to find faulty sensors. If your MAF is the problem, it would show out of range to expected values and throw a p0101 DTC.

After an evening at the track, racing in the rain, my MAF got contamination on it (I think air filter oil w/water emulsion.) It kept throwing a p0171 (lean) code. I tried resetting it for a few days afterwards, hoping it would clear itself, but to no avail. I finally took it off and sprayed it down with brake/contact cleaner. I haven't thrown a code since.
It's def. worth a try. It's a cheap, easy fix that just might work.

Reason i think it is the MAF.The MAF tells you VCM/ECM how much air is coming in to the engie right? if something casues the maf to misread the amount of air coming in weather is telling the system is has less air then is actually coming in or saying there is more air then actually coming in the injectors adjust to that right ?
Its worth a shot, cleaning the MAF, I just wouldn't expect much. Most MAF sensors have the ability to superheat themselves to burn off anything that may contaminate the sensor.

As I said in my last post, the PCM can get an idea of when the MAF is reporting values that aren't reliable. The MAF isn't the only sensor that measures incoming airflow. Did you get the fuel trim rich code with the Stage 2 tune?
