Hey whats up guys,

i'm on here trying to figure out where in the world is the oil filter on these cars?? usually there either on the side of the block or above you once you get under the car...i can't find it wtf. Its my wife's car and i'm trying to look for it on here but can't find a thread for a base model 2009 Cobalt 2.2 LT "NON TC/SC" how to guide oil change. And i need to figure out what size socket, extension, ratchet etc...wtf found where the drain plugs at but can't find the oil filter i bought the oil filter and these babies are small as f***!!! haha idk i need some feedbacks cuz this car is really getting on my nerves.

right below the intake manifold. u will be a plastic cap thing with a wrench fitting on top

^^^ yep. its a cartrage type oil filter, so its not what your looking for. I believe the socket size is 1 1/4.

oh and and just an fyi, you can follow the sc oil change tutorial, just put in less oil and is easier due to no supercharger in your way.

Make sure to remove all that god-aweful black plastic, take a look below the intake manifold and voila, black cap about 2-1/2inch diameter (roughly) with a 1-1/4" hex shape for a socket.

Trust me, I was surprised to find this myself, all my old cars were the canister style too. Gotta love how the cartridge filter cost more too!

OMG!! ugh, a plastic piece wtf...i see what you guys are talking about, god why does it have to be there... i had to take the damn gay plastic cover and now theres a plastic canister that covers the oil filter so lame! FML! thats why i stick to my evo haha easy to find things than cram space's...and yes the damn cartridge filter is crazy $$$ just for a little thing that looks like a small heineken keg cans ...i hope i don't break this plastic cover i really hope i don't lol

It's actually really easy. Just get a 10" extension and whatever size socket it is (I believe 1 1/4", but not positive) and twist it off. You'd have to be a megadipshit to **** it up.

you wont break it as long as you use a correct tool.

I find the WORST thing about changing the filter is trying to not let the filter touch anything and get oil everywhere. I loosen the cap, pull up halfway, put a rag or shop towel on it and lift and hope nothing gets oil on it lol.

It's an art, like removing the drain plug without getting oil on your hands or dropping the plug into the drain pan.

Just be happy its not an SS/SC.. Then you would have to deal with the supercharger being in the way..

yea well true...but i really would like to boost her car so bad but since i've heard on here i can put SS parts on a base model LT 2.2 i'm thinking of turbo charging it but idk if this is true or not cuz i'm kinda iffy about it and don't know if i should go for it or no

damn, now thats better right there...thank you dude haha. i'm thinking of not putting that gay plastic cover back on anymore for the whole engine bay. that seems pretty easy to do now thank you!!! haha

yea dude, i thought i had to do squeeze through wires and such but just the base model oil change is simple but soon i'll be TC her car soon once i change everything lol
