killed cigarette lighter..how do i fix? fuse maybe?

well my cigarette lighter in my 07 ss4dr blew... and ive read the manual that says just change the fuse..well i checked every fuse in the inconsole fuse box and cant find the one for the cig ligther and none are blown. and i didnt see any description for one in the under hood fuse box. i followed the wires behind the lighter right into the back of the fuse box but im still puzzled

is there a hidden fuse anywhere? or is this cig lighter tied into anything else? in my blazer when i blew the cig lighter usually all my power outlets go out or i loose radio and back lights to the instruments...in the cobalt nothing else went out just the cig lighter..any help would be appreciated

My buddy did this in his cavalier, he was using it to smoke ...well it wasn't tabacco. I tried to replace the fuse, but just like you it wasn't the problem. I even tried to replace the the lighter. In the end I had to replace the socket for him, it had overheated and fried something inside. It didn't cost much to fix, any parts store should have one. I think it was $20-30 in total

I think it is under the hood it took me awhile to find it when i blew mine. I'll go check to see what it was labeled for you.

EDIT:
I just looked at it is the only 15A(blue) fuse on the left-side edge when looking the the fuse box from the front of the car. Also on the underside of the fuse box cover it is labeled LTR.

If it's the one on the dash, it's a 15 amp LTR fuse. If it's the power outlet on the console, it's a 20 amp Trunk/Outlet fuse. Both are underhood.

Is the lighter the only thing on the fuse?
In my old car the (civic) the lighter and the radio all ran from the same fuse.
If the fuse than wouldn't it effect some other part of the car
Unless of course if it was something that was non important and maybe went un-noticed.
Do you have an aftermarket stereo installed?
Some of the wiring harnesses for after market stereos controll the 12v outlets as well

The fuse is under the hood. Look under the cover once you take it off the fusebox, it should be labeled "lighter" or something along those lines. I blew mine when I went camping and had a power inverter hooked up to it. The SS couldn't handle all teh powah drawz

This post just helped me alot, I was just about to take my car to the dealership. I have a garmin and a cell phone charger that didn't work, once I change the 15v fuse I got juice. Thanks!

That is correct, the OBDII port in the Cobalt is off the same fuse as the cigarette lighter, more specifically the one closest to the dash. I believe the tail lights are on a different circuit (IE: a different fuse), I could be wrong though, but I would check the fuses under the hood as well for your tail lights.

Or he could just un-tint the tail lights - that would brighten them up

Sorry, couldn't resist that one......spot on about the obdII port getting power of the lighter circuit though

On the 2010 Cobalt, the fuse is under the hood. Remember to lift the coolant reservoir overflow hose up and back towards you to remove and reinstall the fuse box cover. It's the fuse labeled OUTLET and it's a 20 amp fuse.
