Just a quick question that might seem dumb to a few of you out there but i attempted to remove my spoiler and had failed. i had removed all bolts (4) and it is held together with some kind of apoxy or glue. what is the best way to get this off without risking the paint of the trunk. i know it will leave holes but how i get the spoiler off and all that gunk off? anyone have a good way to go at it? please PM or email me nathankarina@yahoo.com

use fishing line, like a cheese cutter. move it back and forth to slice through the glue.

use a heat gun as well but dont hold it in 1 area too long. take your time it takes a while. i got impatient and put 2 small dents in my trunk. haha

Seriously though, it is about the same process as debadging... just on a larger scale. Take a hairdryer to warm up the tape, then dental floss. (Don't use a heat gun... too risky if you're inexperienced with it.)

Once the spoiler is off, use goo gone to remove the excess.

i used goo gone as well. if you use it dont let it sit on the paint too long. i heard it can eat the clear coat. but thats hear say since it didnt affect mine

You noticed little dings from blunt force, cover holes with body colored plugs or electrical tape. Then crack another beer for success. GM, **** your high-rise.

For anything petroleum based as far as removers go, it is a good idea to rinse the area then apply wax after using it. What happens is products like goo gone and wd40 or gasoline (Old geezer trick) strip the wax off of the vehicle. This is one of the reasons why the area under the fuel filler door tends to bubble and corrode first: The gasoline strips away the wax and removes the protection the paint has.

Or you do like I did... find someone with an absolute base model, and swap them.

Wingless base models seem to be a thing of the past though.

hahaha! great post.

use a heat gun wisely. be patient and keep lifting pressure on the wing. eventually it will start to come up and you can pull it off. I recommend using a hair dryer so you don't burn paint.
go to a body shop supply and buy an "eraser wheel" for 20 or so bucks to remove the remaining glue. compound with 3000 grit and plug 'em!
