LSJ and 2.2 Short Block

LSJ and 2.2 Short Block
Are they interchangeable. I was under the impression they were, and bought a 2.2 block, but if they aren't im going to take it back. Just the short block, i know the pistons and things are different but all thats being swapped out.

essentially they are the same, but there are many differences.
Even if you stuff an LSJ crank/rods/pistons into a 2.2 block, you won't have the oil cooler like the LSJ has. The LSJ head will bolt onto the block, make sure you use the right crank sensor for the right crank. If you use the LSJ crank, then get an LSJ crank sensor. If you use the 2.2 crank, then get the 2.2 sensor as the counters are different.
Whatever you use, I would go ahead and sleeve the block. That's cheap insurance in the long run.

As far as using the LSJ crank/rods/pistons.. didnt see it mentioned, make sure the cylinders for the 2.2 block match the 2.0 block. I dont know the dimensions but something I would personally check.. But with the stroke difference, you want to make sure that the pistons arent pulled too far down. when at the bottom of the stroke. Also wanna make sure that TDC is correct in correspondence to the deck height. They may be identical in this case, with the internals removed, but always good to check..

Yes you definitely want them. The 2.2 is the only engine that doesnt have the squirters....that should tell you something.
As far as the oil cooler goes? thats actually debateable, the biggest issue is youd have to delete all the cooling hoses for it, not really a big deal, but just something youd have to do.
An LE5 block would be a better choice, they are cheap too, have piston jets, early ones have the cooler,and then youd have a 2.1L

2.2 block lacking the oil cooler isnt a big deal because you can always hook up an external one if you want one... the piston oil squirters are certainly a good thing to have though. People do build 2.2s and other motors that dont have these, so no, its not the end of the world. However, if you started with the 2.0 block, I personally wouldn't want to "downgrade" and lose some of the benefits it has to offer.
