Replacing head gasket in 2.0
I need to replace the head gasket in my 06 ss/sc. (well my bf does) im trying to get a list together of everything & i mean everything i will need. can anyone help me out.thanks

cometic is the way to go but there is nothing wrong with getting another stocker... i actually know guys that prefer the stocker. youll have to take the cam gears off to remove the timing chain so youll need new cam bolts. they are torque to yield and shouldnt be re torqued. lots of ppl re use them but just use loctite when they put them back on. its always a good idea to replace your head studs not because you need to but because you already have it apart so why not get better ones. ARP head studs are the way to go in that catagory. other than that, everything can be reused or put back together unless something is slipping my mind. gotta be EXTRA careful when removing the cam gears so you dont skip timing on the engine. they make a cam gear holding tool but you dont need it if you have 2 ppl doing the work. one person just has to hold the cam in place w a wrench while the other person loosens it. be sure to un toque and retorque the head in the proper sequence aswell. i hope some of this helps
also when removing the head its much quicker to just unbolt the header from the downpipe instead of unbolting the header from the head... just pull the head and header off as one.

here is a how to...it actually is a piston how to but you have to do essentially the same stuff to get the head off...there are a couple of steps that can be done different but for the most part follow this

What someone else said, if you don't have the upgraded tensioner in there, now would be an ideal time to upgrade. It's not a "will I need it" part it's a "WHEN will I need it" part.

Head gasket, head studs, crankshaft bolt is torque to yield so it needs to be replaced, i think that is all. Hardest part is getting the timing chain back on correctly and that tensioner back in properly. Other than that it's just a time consuming job, nothing really difficult about it. I replaced with the stock MLS 20psi on TVS, no issues to date.

Not sure how much the timing chain and new tensioner cost, but I think the head gasket and studs are like $150? Total should be less than $500 if you shop smart and don't buy through the dealer.
