speaker cutting in and out
My driver front speaker has started this spell lately where it will randomly work sometimes, and other times have absolutely no sound at all. It doesnt have any of the signs of going bad like buzzing, rattling, etc. I've also noticed that when it does work, the clicking sound for my turn signals works. But when the speaker is not working, neither is the turn signal sound, but the signals still flash inside and out. I was wondering if anyone had run into this issue before and what it could possibly be?

The signal sound on newer cars runs through the stereo so im guessing that its just a side effect.
I'd set the stereo to only that speaker using fade/bal and take apart the door panel, start wiggling the connections, hopefully its just gotten loose at the speaker from slamming the door. Otherwise you likely have a pinched wire somewhere. I doubt it could come loose at the stereo but ive never seen the connections on these so donno for sure.

Check the wires, the harness takes a lot of abuse where it passes from the door to the frame - it gets flexed every time you open / close the door.
PITA to repair with the wires running through that rubber boot

either the wires are pinched in the boot in your door. or it's possble the headunit's power system is going bad. When i was looking at balts I drove an 07 and the radio wasn't working nore were the turn signals making any sound... turns out it was the amp had gone bad. although having sound to ur others makes me think it's broke in the door. reason for it working sometimes is you may close the door and the wires may settle against each other causing them to work, but u may open the door and close it again and they don't settle against each other that time. check the wires in the boot.

more likely the plug is loose, mine did this on the driver side and the one in the back (cant remember which). i had to adjust the female metal tabs in the plug bc they wouldnt connect fully. now i have aftermarket speakers so for better sound quality and no more cutting out randomly

Well i pulled the panel today to have a look around. The wiring all seems to be intact and the harnesses have good firm connections. the speaker seems fine, and i even tried turning on the radio and wiggling all wires and connections around a little. it hasnt worked period the last couple days. and i'm starting to get frustrated. its like being deaf in one ear. any other ideas guys? i appreciate all your feedback thus far.

I've been having the same problem with the driver side speaker for the past month or so and last night, the turn signal chime finally gave out and the display on the headunit goes blank occasionally. I have a 100% stock, base model, (non-Pioneer) system. I'm thinking that the root of my problems is the headunit...

If it does end up moving you're going to have to do a continuity check with a meter by removing the radio and setting the meter to continuity and putting one probe to one side of the connector that plugs into the speaker and one side into the harness pin with the corresponding wire color that you're probing on the speaker connector. If it beeps you're fine if it doesn't you've got a break in the wire or another issue somewhere along the run, in which case you'd just solder in a new wire to the existing wire coming out of the back of the headunit and run it to the speaker....if THAT didn't correct the issue then you might just have a bad channel on your radio or amplifier...good luck mang!

music does not work on that one speaker either, and when the display goes, the music keeps playing and all functions of the radio still work...you just can't see anything. And when I got in my car this morning, everything magically worked again...odd

thats true. if anything id check out the speaker change that and possibly live with the half messed up display. You can also try taking off the "face" of the stock radio (it is removable but its screwed and has clips and such) and putting some flux wash or something on the connection to verify thats not the problem. Its a long shot and id guess at best 20% chance of fixing it but hey if you have a few hours and 5 bucks it cant hurt

Left Front Speaker intermittent and no signal sound
I have the exact same problem as you. Intermittent left front speaker. No crackling, no buzzing....either perfect, or nothing. I have moved the wire boot on the door all around. If it were a wire problem, it would have cut in/out, or crackled or something. I'm thinking it is in the sound system, and must have something to do with the circuitry that makes the turn signal noise. I'm thinking I could have a nice aftermarket stereo put in for the price of a diagnostic from the dealership. It drives me nuts though. I'm only about 40 miles north of you. Maybe it's an Indiana Cobalt thing?
Let me know if you find out what causes this.

just fyi the speaker doesnt need to do or not do anything to be broken. so just because u dont hear crackling doesnt rule out the speaker being broken. so even thou it might be a connection or amp or hu issue id still check the speaker first because that has the highest probability of failing first
