Stage Kits for Cobalt SS/SC
Hey guys my name is Matt and I'm from Québec (Canada), I used to drive a slightly modified 1998 Ford Mustang V6 (about 150hp) and then I switched over and bought a 2006 Cobalt SS/SC back at the beginning of the summer. I love the car and I'd like to get some more horsepower out of it. Don't worry, I've been lurking the forum for a while already before registering and made some research.
Everybody seems to agree on one thing, Stage 2 and a 2.90 pulley gives the best results and so this is what I'm trying to go for. There are so many stage kits available it's unbelievable.
My main concern is tuning though, which one out of the box comes with a decent tuning already?
GMPP Stage 2 - $709.02 Shipped (with my custom options)
3.06 Pulley
GM 42# Injectors
GM Supercharger Belt
This is a Genuine GM performance package, thoroughly tested and known to be reliable. It seems to be sub-par compared to other aftermarket stage kits as it only yield a meager horsepower increase in comparison and at a much higher price. The 3.06 Pulley is a turn-off to me and I've heard the GM injectors would go static with a 2.90 Pulley.
ZZP Stage 2 - $551.53 Shipped (with my custom options)
2.90 Pulley
Siemens 50# Injector
GM Supercharger Belt
NGK 4644 Sparkplugs
ZZP tuned PCM
I have heard generally good reviews about ZZP, it also seems to be the best bang for the buck out of all companies and about $150 cheaper than GM Stage 2 kit. Though I have also heard mixed reviews about their tuning. The injectors that comes with the kit are guaranted to handle the shorter pulley.
Intense Stage 3 607.62$ Shipped (with my custom options)
2.90 Pulley
Lucas 42.5lb Injectors
Casper's Fuel Injector Wire Harness
Shorter Supercharger Belt
NGK BRK7E Sparkplugs
Intense tuned PCM
I have heard mixed reviews about Intense, some were good, some were bad. This is the second cheapest performance package available and about $100 cheaper than GM Stage 2 kit. There are mixed reviews about their tuning though. At the moment this seems like the best kit for me.
OTTP Stage 2 - $614.00 Shipped (with my custom options)
2.80 Pulley (Multiple Pulley System)
Unknown 60lb Injectors
Unknown Injector Harness
GM Supercharger Belt
NGK Unknown Sparkplugs
OTT tuned PCM
OTTP stage kit is the third most expensive performance package of the bunch but not by much. I have also heard mixed reviews about their stage kit and tuning. They seem to be using a different kind of pulley and I don't know why. The fact that the pulley is 2.80 is also a turn off to me.

Gm kit is a waste of money. Intense tune is garbage. Ottp will say everything is in stock but then take 3 months to ship stuff to you. Go with zzp stage 3 kit. Run a 2.7 or 2.8 pulley with all cooling mods(phenolic IM spacer and heat exchanger, dual pass/option b set up), get a custom tune and be happy. You're also gonna want to have an aftermarket header and downpipe to expell all that exhaust pressure now that you're sucking in more air. Where are you located? We'll help you find the most local tuner.

Hey guys thank you all for the fast answers, actually I don't know why but it took 3 days for the thread to appear on the forum. What I ended up doing is ordering everything separately from ottp. I bought a 2.9" pulley with 60# injectors, injector harness, gm undersized belt and colder sparkplugs. I will install everything myself and will order a Trifecta tune. This sounded like the best solution to me. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks !

Cooling mods is indeed a good idea. It will keep you from heat soaking which will cause the comp to pull timing and therefore not make great power. Also heat will kill your engine
