The build book lists it as one of the steps in block prep. I know Bates has a machined adapter for attaching hoses to the block after some machine work. But the bible just says mill the lump off and weld some fittings on there. Before I go wackin on it all ***** nilly I thought someone might have a picture of what it should look like when I'm done.
PS. I have a real reason to remove it

The remote filter and cooler I mentioned in the PM that I'm doing has an adapter that fits to the side of the filter housing that replaces the stock oil cooler. Less expensive approach if you want a remote filter or upgraded cooler

Thanks. That answers some of my concerns. Looking at the casting it looks like the ports are all cast into the block not drilled, so I questioned whether they would be round or oblong. Looking at that bolt on plate I bet they aren't round. I really want to cut mine clear off. I don't use the filter, and the housing is in the way of my intake. Here's a couple pics of what I'm working with.




And the new intake. The barrel valve (lower right bunch of fittings & linkage) wants to be right where the oil filter housing is.

Interesting! so NA? Bearing Services would certainly be able to machine it off and fit oil fittings for you if you end up using them. Alternatively there are some other throttle body options for you

Yea, I looked at it first. Almost bought one, but the one I got was half the price, and a better fit for what I'm doing. The Kinsler one has really huge throttle bores. A buddy I race against has one. The one I got has smaller bores and seems to have better throttle response. The kinsler would be killer for an all out drag motor.

This is mentioned in the GM buildbook:

"The oil filter boss is removed from the block. This can be done on a mill or with a
sawzall. A female -10 ORB fitting is welded on the block."

So what does it take to remove the oil filter housing from your new block? How about a Sawzall and a little bit of Rum... Well, maybe more than a little bit.





Now just have to figure out how to plug the unnecessary holes.



Next stop the Bridgeport to clean it up a bit. Then probably weld a cover over two of them, and a threaded bung over the in port.

hahahaha! I love it. even GM says use a sawzall. this is a great build idea I can't wait to see it done. I will be watching. what's the goal here? obviously n/a

I'm sorry for bringing this thread back from the dead, but does anyone know a shop that has done this kind of work before?
