Something like this.....
In case you think it looks weird on the stock ones, imagine it on a fixed up one with a sportier stance than stock 4x4. Like on one of our more well known stanced SS's.
IMHO this slight tweak and exaggeration of the stock SS type bumper is the best looking option for a body kit.
Just different looking that you notice something different, more aggressive, but still flows with the stock lines. And you can still use the factory SS lip. Simple, clean, awesome looking, and inexpensive to make.
Here is the stock bumper on same unaltered picture for comparison.

in my opinion, the kits out now, dont flow with the lines of the car... they make them look boxy (not a good thing) the only thing that goes good with them is the ss bumper... so if you could pretty much replicate the ss bumpers, with mild adjustments (since they are flawless now anyway "imo")

That one front bumper that I saw the other day looks the best for these cars so far.. The MTE body kit or watever? It has a look almost like a Cruze in the front, but the rear bumper looks like garbage.. I really like the front cuz how it doesn't change a whole lot, but it brings the cobalts front end up with the rest of the Chevy family

I agree with u guys. We want to change the design from stock so like shake said ur not paying $xxx for a bumper that looks stock. Regarding the rear we r working on having a truely functional diffuser. I think everyone will b pleasantly surprised when I can release the renderings

The closest kit you can get for that type is on sale now:
STRIKER style Front Bumper for Chevrolet Cobalt 2005 - 2010
I wonder how the Cobalt would look like without those big fenders. At least it looks different.

I would only buy a bumper other than stock if it looked similar to stock but was more functional. Like other's have said, opening the lower intake would be important for better airflow to the h/e or intercooler and just a better looking upper grill portion that looked clean and had good airflow. If someone was serious about this, you also have to keep in mind that most people are going to want to retain the mounting and functionality of the fog lamps. You will also want to keep in mind that the stock grill is built into the radiator shroud. A new bumper would obviously not use this but people are still going to want something to cover that area up to keep things looking clean.
I know, eventually, I will need to buy a new bumper because I'm a "lifer" with this car. At this point, I will only buy stock from the current options.
This would be the best option so far, other than the fact that I don't like what they did with the fog lights. I'd prefer to keep the stock projector lamps.
Also, keep in mind you can only go so high before you expose the crash beam. You also don't want to open it too wide because no one is going to want their intercooler couplers showing...

Im not going to say I speak for the masses or anything... but the 2008 saab 9-3 has a pretty badass foglight setup that could go well with our front bumper... more ideas below as I was feeling creative on Photoshop.. not having anything stick out obnoxiously and keeping the kit sleek is something that needs to be kept at a top priority
saab foglight / bigger IC opening
saab foglight & saab IC grilles (evo modded of course to blend in this case)
porshe inspired front end with similar styled saab fogs
opinions on photoshops anyone?
