steering wheel chevy emblem

i would really like to not have to see the gold chevy symbol on my steering wheel and was wondering if anyone else has modified their steering wheel to not have to see it ? any suggestion with keeping the factory steering wheel and removing the chevy sign?

I don't know exactly how that comes off but I have also been wondering the same thing. The Monte Carlo SS has a nice SS badge in the center of the wheel.... check the GM website.... looks really nice.

i've seen one picture from sema of a cobalt with the boost gauge in the center instead of the chvey logo. I'd like to be able to put some kind SS emblem there instead.

Unless you used some kind of sticker(custom or what not) to cover it up I wouldnt touch it untill I found out exactly how it is attached . Since its a actual emblem , it has to be attached in a way that it will stay intact with the steering wheel cover should the airbag deploy . If it werent , then it would be nothing but a projectile if the air bag blew . And , at the incredible force a air bag blows at , that little emblem could do some serious damage to your face .

Theres a few members on here who have wrecked their cars , ask them if they remember anything about what happened with the emblem after the bag was deployed . Like did it stay attached .

Good idea though , I want the black SS logo too . Im eventually gonna switch my entire wheel out for a 3 spoke malibu SS wheel . That cover already has the emblem there .

Airbag deployment

I saw a wrecked Cobalt at the dealer when I went for an oil change. This isn't the best pic of a steering wheel, but I happened to have one of mine so I used it. The white lines show how the airbag deploys from the steering wheel, the SS symbol stays on the black cover, it splits apart around the emblem. I don't remember the emblem itself whether it was attatched through the plastic or just stuck on with adhesive though.

A sticker wouldn't be a bad idea except that the emblem is raised, so you'd still see the outline of the bow tie behind it. Same thing with painting it unless you sand it completely flat. Is that what you did sweettheshocker, or did you just rough it up a little for painting?

I don't think it has anything to do with the fact that it is a chevy emblem. I think most people just hate the gold color. It is really random looking on the cars and most people would be happy if they were silver or some other color that goes with the cars.

**In my opinion the reason for takin off the bowtie is not becuase it is an eyesore or a embarassment, but for the same reason we do any mods to our car...because we know that it will improve its apperance, or performance...I have removed the back chevy emblem, but anyone asks me what my car is I will be proud to say CHEVY!!!

well seeing as chevy put the SS in the impala's and the malibu maxx's , they should have done it in both of the cobalt ss models

but i do agree the gold color sucks , chevy's BIG slogan used to be beware of the RED bow tie , not gold bow tie

i was happier with the blue outline bow tie on my cav than i was the fully blue 1 chevy used stating in 00 on the cavs

once they did the gold and silver in 03 the bow tie looked like crap

I like the SS emblem on the steering wheel for us 2.4 guys, but the sema cobalt i saw with the boost guage in the wheel was awesome! i bet it kills any chance of the air bag working properly, but it looks sweet.
