michigan there really is no law aaginst the amount the state police will haze about it but nothing really against the law my windows are all pitch black and i have never been pulled yet. and i got it done about 6 months ago and 2 days after i got my tintt pulled over for speeding and the sheriff didnt say anything just handed me the 105 dollar ticket and said have a nice day! (*****)
All my buddies have their rides tinted to 20%, never heard of ANYONE saying they got a ticket for window tint.
If it did happen, you wouldn't be pulled over for the tint. You would be pulled over for something else and the cop, depending on where you are, might ticket you additionally if he/she notices tint.
EDIT: limo tint=5%

also i was thinking if the car is registered with dual owners could say that the other person has it... that would work in my case because A. Im not even the registered owner, my wife and father-in-law are and B. father-in-law does have skin cancer. So i do belive i have just found a loop hole. only considering if your state allows medical waiver of the tint law. I will have to look into it further for PA because i'm sure they would have a limit also for the waiver.

These laws may not be current and are often enforced differently by different PD's. In all cases, refer to you local authority for enforcement policies, current laws, rules or regulations. Your current state law is the final authority, not this website! The numbers represent the percentage of light transmitted through the tinted glass, so the lower the number, the darker the film allowed. Generally the films are sold as 5%(limo), 20%(dark), 35%(medium), 50%(light).
S.U.V.s often have different regulations, which are not listed here.

Dudes, I have had every vehicle I owned tinted to 20% front and back sides with 5% on rear windshield, and never once have I gotten a ticket. I have been driving for about 7 years now. No MICHIGAN cop gives a **** about window tint. Our state is such a shithole and in poor shape, cops don't tax people on window tint. Hell, in Flint, most cops don't give a **** about having a bit of ganja on you. When the crime/murder rate is through the roof in your area/state, cops tend to not waste time on window tint violations.

But here's the good news: According to Officer Friendly, all I have to do is bring the citation to the tint shop, have them scrape off the (beautiful) work they did and slap some 35% up there--You see, that way, the Judge "almost always" waives the $60 ticket. Never mind that it would cost north of $200 and the better part of an afternoon.
Should I get pulled over again, do I have any recourse at all? Say, some type of impressive-sounding eye disorder to confuse the officer to let me be on my way? According to my market research, police officers are--for the most part--not very bright. At the very least, I would suggestions on how to belittle the cop, making him feel small and petty for my trouble. Something about my tax dollars paying his salary, perhaps...be creative. Help?
Oh, and it's now been at least 5 months since I've ordered "cobaltss.net" decals. I guess you can just keep my four bucks.

I saw the post about someone saying that in MI its illegal to have any tint on the front windows. The actual legal limit in most cities in Michigan it's 35%, I'm not sure if they changed it or not. I had tint on my Grand Prix and only got pulled over once but I also had 15%. The cop didn't specify, so the rules could have changed.

Tint Shade Laws - Canada
Below are the laws as I understand them... please feel free to post your experiences with your local law enforcement.
I live in Ontario and when I was on a road trip to Quebec recently, I got pulled over just for the tint. The officer wanted me to remove the tint as he did not care what Ontario's laws were. "I wasn't in Ontario anymore" as he put it. Long story short... I left Quebec with my window tint still on.
The laws regarding window film vary from province to province. The following are a summation of the laws in each province:
British Columbia - No film is permitted on the driver’s compartment, right and left. Any film may be installed on the side windows behind the driver. Any film may be applied to the rear window, provided the vehicle has 2 exterior rear view mirrors.
Alberta - Same as British Columbia.
Saskatchewan - Same as British Columbia.
Manitoba - For driver’s compartment, right and left, the minimum visible light transmittance, net, is 50%. The maximum visible light transmittance, net, is 35%. For windows behind the driver’s compartment, the minimum Visible Light Transmittance, net, is 35%. Where film is installed behind the driver’s compartment, 2 external rear view mirrors are required. The net figures that are allowed are enforced at plus or minus 5%.
Ontario - For the driver’s compartment, right and left, no film can be installed that would substantially obscure visibility from the exterior. Behind the driver’s compartment, any film can be installed.
Quebec - For the driver’s compartment, right and left, the minimum Visible Light Transmittance is 70% on automotive net basis. Any film may be installed behind the driver’s compartment, provided the vehicle is outfitted with 2 exterior rear view mirrors.
New Brunswick - Same as Ontario.
Prince Edward Island - Same as British Columbia.
Nova Scotia - No film is permitted on any glazing surface.
Newfoundland - Same as Ontario.
