I would like to start offering alternator pulleys for the Cobalt's, does anyone have a stock one they would be willing to send me? In return I would be happy to ship it back along with a new aluminum replacement within 2 days. I will offer these in overdrive, underdrive, and stock sizes but they will be much lighter than stock!

Thanks,
Nate

I've checked at all the local "auto recyclers" and no one has one :cussing:

I posted in your other thread about the stocker being clutched, I'm not sure if you can remove it without damaging it permanently.

The stocker is alluminum. We tried welding it once to try to spin it backwards on a turbo swap and it just melted.

Yeah, I was looking at it today, I don't see exactly how it comes off without damaging something, but I have a spare alternator that I guess I can experiment on.

Do you know the reason for the clutch?

Nope, I just know it prevents it from spinning backwards.

i was told that the alternator pulley for the le5 is the same as the alt pulley from the ld9 (z24) cavalier... in that case i have a lightweight alt pulley and a stock one. if u can find out if they really are similar ill send it to u.

So the alt pulley for the LSJ is clutched?

So the alt pulley for the LSJ is clutched?

Yes.

I can't get it off, I've tried every reasonable method that won't damage an alternator, or i'd send one in. It has a huge allen key in the middle, i've hit that with an impact gun with no results, and you can't hold the pulley still from the outer ring due to the clutch mechanism inside it.

Yeah, and a buddy of mine who had an alternator go bad and got a rebuilt, had the pulley fall off. I guess either there is some trick to it or you need some massive tools. I will get one to this shop I use one day, if it can be done they will do it for me, all they do is starters/alternators, and they can rewind alternators to get more amps out of them and all other tricky shit.

The pulley fell off a new one not a rebuilt one and We took it to a altenator shop and they threaded it and put a bolt on it and its been fine since so i guesss you can just rip off the pulley.
