Spark Plug Surprise

Well yesterday I changed my spark plugs to ngk bkr7e's and i was surprised to find that my car already had ngk spark plugs in it. they werent exactly the same as the ones i put in though. I thought that was weird because I have never changed the plus and i have had this car since new.

So the question is do they come with NGK's from the factory?

In the 2.4L at least (and I think the LSJ is the same) the BKR7E is 2 steps colder. The thing I would be leary of is that the NGK BRK series plug has a standard flat seat with a washer. The stock plugs use a beveled seat. The BKR series are also too short for our head. The stock plug has a 25mm reach where the BKR plugs are only 3/4" or 19mm. I've been researching plugs for about 6 months because of my N2O setup. I called and talked to an NGK tech, and the perfect plug is the LTR7IX-11. Been using them for about a month, great plug.

Do you know why he determined that specific plug? The website part finder recommends PFR6T-10G with a 0.040 gap for the LSJ.

Don't know accept that a number of people have been using the BKR series plugs and don't seem to have any problems with them but, they are not the correct plug. I would doubt though that they give the same performance. Sorry I also don't know about the PFR series either but, I have seen were some cross reference guides say the PFR series are a stock replacement. One thing I can tell (that you may or may not already know) is that the number determines the heat range. Our engines stock should use the "5". The "6" of course would be one colder, and the "7" would be two. Besides the heat range, the 3 other things to look for is the seat, the reach, and last, the length of the electrode. Standard electrode and Iridium plugs are Ok for N2O or other forced induction applications, you just don't want to try to use platinium plugs.

The stock LSJ plugs are equiv to the 6 series NGK plugs. So the 7's are one step colder on the 2.0 not 2

I use the one step colder BKR7's in the summer becasue it calls for it in the GM build book once you start modding it.

The strokes are different on the LSJ from the 2.2 and 2.4 motors. The BRK is the stock plug type for the LSJ motor.

Yea... I did some more research on the LSJ motor and the NGKs and your right. The head on the 2.2L 2.4L vs LSJ are different. Appearently the LSJ does use a 3/4" reach and a flat washered seat so your right, I'm wrong. My bad... Oh well, I learned something today, and that's a good thing.
