Looking for new exhaust..

Hey guys. I'm a new poster here but I've been browsing for a while. I'm trying to start modding my Cobalt LS and I need some advice. I searched through some older threads about what kind of exhaust would be good for me. I really don't want to have a ricer sound and I want something that sounds a bit more powerful. In one of the older threads someone mentioned a Tsudo N-1 catback. I noticed that was one of those ebay exhausts so I'm a bit sketchy about buying it. I went on Youtube to find some videos where people have installed it and it doesn't sound bad at all. Have any of you guys ever used one or know first hand how well they sound?

The Tusdo cat back exhuast is a good choice i think. It is actually 2.25 inches, which is probably better anyways unless your going turbo or SC.
Nice deep tone and its not ricey. Maybe the tip, but i think it looks good.

But if i had the money laying around, i would have probably went GM performance. But the ebay one will do pretty much the same for a WAY lower price.

it's what i ordered but i didn't order it from ebay. becareful about that because i've heard horror stories about people buying those $4.00 mufflers and then the welds are all fucked up. go to a vendor and purchase the muffler from there. that way you know it's the brand name you want and not just some knock off.

Is there a big difference with the GM performance parts? I haven't purchased anything yet so all suggestions are welcome. I've got enough money to go GM if I can find something that sounds like the N1.

EDIT: I was reading that a tuner for the 06 auto is almost completed. I might go Turbo if the auto is included. I want a shift kit eventually but I'm taking baby steps - I still don't know too much.

Just start doing little bolt-ons while you learn. The Tsudo N1 cat-back is actually a pretty nice set-up, it doesnt sound ricey at all. The K&N intakes are nice for the 2.2's as well. You also might want to look into the B&M shiftplus for your automatic.

Yea I've been looking into K&N intakes as well. My goal right now is to grab the exhaust and a header followed by the shift kit (that's the auto/manual, right?). My girlfriend's dad is real good with all this but I figured you guys would know a bit more about Cobalt's specifically. Anyway, that B&M looks interesting. Definitely something I will be looking into.

the shift kit is not auto/manual. it just makes the shifts a lot firmer and lets the transmission run cooler(also prolonging the life of the tranny) i have seen 2.2's chirp 1st to 2nd gear with the B&M shiftplus on their automatics. Plus its a very cheap modification-about 45 to 50 dollars i believe?

If i were you, this is what i would buy for your 2.2:
1) Cobalt Addiction Version 2 Header
2) Cobalt Addiction XTC 2.5 inch downpipe with CAT
3) GM Performance Parts Sport Cat-back
4) K&N Short Ram Intake
5) B&M Shift Plus

That's incredibly specific lol. Thanks for the advice, I'm going to do a bit of research on those parts now. Why the V2 header, though? I thought that was only good for the 2.0 and that the 2.2 didn't have much of a difference from the V1.

Well after looking at a few videos of the GMPP exhaust, I think it sounds horrid. This is actually the best sounding video I can find of it and i still don't like the sound. Have you used the GMPP before? Does it actually sound like this or am i being a bit to paranoid?

i was also thinking of purchasing the tsudo from ebay but i am not sure as i heard the muffler rubs and burns the top back of the bumper because of the hangers so you would have to take it to a shop and have them fix that so thats probably why im not ordering it. I am thinking of going with a magnaflow muffler and magnaflow cat and then taking it to an exhaust shop and have them do 2.25 or 2.5" piping.

From the descriptions I'm getting it sounds like it does. However, I can't find any Tsudo exhausts for a Cobalt on ebay or google. Is it listed as something else by any chance?

My Tsudo Exhaust

with silencer a week after I got it
Walk around with slight revving(sounds best with bass all the way up)
Shorter walk around, mainly just some slight revs

It isnt the gay ass N1 though, as you can see in the vids, I have a canister muffler then a seperate tip, the N1 has a fart cannon big enough to stick your foot in.

no cat-back exhaust has a cat welded to it. i believe your thinking of a resonator. what kind of sound are you looking for btw? loud and deep? if so, the megan racing catback could be an option for you

EDIT: The idle sounds different in your last 2 clips. Is that different sound being caused by the silencer?

I don't want something extremely loud. I want it to sound powerful without being obnoxious. this is a nice idle and tru2nrtt's rev is near perfect. I know I won't be able to get both of those sounds but it gives you an idea. Basically, I want it to be deep and semi-loud. Not to the point where I'm setting off car alarms in the parking garage, though. That Megan is way too loud.

No cat-back is gonna make it sound ricey. The only way you get that "ricey" sound you speak of is if you delete your cat (typically via a cat-less downpipe).

Injen offers the BEST dyno results for most power increase.

Yeah the first one was when I had the silencer on because it was wedged in there, the second and third are after I removed it, those were taken a week or 2 ago and here is one from a few days ago from inside the cabin: Tsudo in cabin, windows closed

I am gonna get one with the windows open when the pollen settles a little or it rains... then I might get a one wheeled burnout(which is all I can do with the R-compound tires).

I'm liking the Tsudo a lot. As long as I remove the silencer (or possibly buy one w/o it) it seems to be perfect for me. Thanks for all the help guys. What do you suggest for the header/downpipe?
