4.0L V6 Mustang - New Best ET & 60'

I went to MIR over the weekend for the Get Out Of The Cold Race/Show, and had fun looking at the other 129 Mustangs there! Driving down, I met up with four other members of the host club, but we ended up taking a different route than I had planned to go. Their route was shorter, and instead of arriving at the track with 10-15 miles to E, I had 78 miles to E - so much for the idea of putting 4-5 gallons of 104 unleaded in the car and running my race tune. So I retained my 93 tune, and kept the interior in tact (but removed the jack, spare, and floor).

I got to make 4 passes, and beat my previous personal best twice. Here is my best slip of the day:

That's a 14.312 @ 95.67 with a 60' of 1.942, and on another pass I cut a new best 60' of 1.906. The other car was a S197 GT, and you'll notice that I beat him in the 1/8th mile! After getting a new PB, I was coached by rygenstormlocke to do a ProStock burnout for the camera. Using my new line locks, I put a hurtin' on my M&H Racemaster DR's. Sadly, rygen's camera battery died, so I had to do it again. I was happy to oblige!

Here is my new sig (too big for this forum, I'm afraid) -

I've done a few things to my coupe:
- C&L intake
- Custom tunes by Evolution Performance (87, 93, Race)
- PHP alternator pulley
- Dual GT take-off mufflers, with x-pipe and all Ford parts
- 7.5" 4.10:1 Ford gears and T-Lok
- CHE lower control arms
- BMR upper control arm
- PH aluminum driveshaft & front safety loop
- K-member w/ torque limiters
- Line Locks
- 275/50R17 M&H Racemaster DR's on 17x9" replica Bullitts
- Slate Metallic wide hood stripes by BSM
- Spoiler delete

Planned:
- Rear shocks
- Wideband AFR gauge
- SPEC stage 2 clutch, and maybe an alum flywheel

All in all, it was a great day. Just thought I'd share :-)

Quite literally now! Thanks. Two other 4.0L's ran 14.4's, and one of them only had an intake, tune, and exhaust done (so he retained the stock 3.31:1 open-end rear). It was great to see so many cars run, and catch up with old friends. Some were sporting new mods, some were playfully talkin' smack - typical track/show stuff. The kind of thing all car enthusiests can appreciate - regardless of car make.

Sweet 4.0 my friend!

You need to cut some better 60s with the RWD though...:-P

Man that would be one 4.0 that I would get all cocky about then get ******* blown away...way to rep the slow V6s in a fast kinda way.

Better get some F/I on that thing man...I have seen 10 sec F/I 4.0s....******* low 14s...awesome

I'm pretty sure I said quick. There is a difference. I don't consider my car fast either. Yet.

ha, it doesn't even take a grand to go a whole sec quicker. I have proven that.

A joke? No, I'm afraid not. The OP has at least 2 grand into the V-6 mustang. Besides, a 4.0 is a large V-6. Only 1l difference.

- C&L intake
- Custom tunes by Evolution Performance (87, 93, Race)
- PHP alternator pulley
- Dual GT take-off mufflers, with x-pipe and all Ford parts
- 7.5" 4.10:1 Ford gears and T-Lok
- CHE lower control arms
- BMR upper control arm
- PH aluminum driveshaft & front safety loop
- K-member w/ torque limiters
- Line Locks
- 275/50R17 M&H Racemaster DR's on 17x9" replica Bullitts
- Slate Metallic wide hood stripes by BSM

Give me better gears, a tune, and light weight drive shaft and watch me run 12.5s all day.

It will be interesting to see the 3.5L going into V6 stangs, especially once Ford starts letting the turbos out.

"Two other 4.0L's ran 14.4's, and one of them only had an intake, tune, and exhaust done"

so with maybe 600 bucks in mods another one went 14.4. There are alot of ss/sc's doing the same thing. I'd like to see that 12.5 with that light weight driveshaft (good luck with that) and doesn't s2 come with a tune? You have a more expensive car and by the looks of it about a similar amount in mods or more. Hell you've been claiming 12's for 6 months, i'd like to see one period. i've seen you talk so much **** from your high horse of a speed demon mid 13 sec car it's just funny to me, cause i didn't realize mid 13's was fast. show some respect for other peoples rides, especially when they have an extremely neutral post with no hostility and you aren't exactly driving a 10 second car. you sound like slow sho or laloosh when you do that.

I doubt you were on stock turbo and I bet everything around the motor was beefed up.

Here's a picture taken as I was rolling out -

For the record, I've never said or thought that 14's are quick/fast. I've had quicker cars, but this one is my daily driver, and I've developed a plan for the car in an effort to reach some goals. I wanna stay NA and be in the 13's. Even that's not quick (by most standards), but it's pretty good for a NA V6. If I wanted to run 12's or better, I could have built up something else, but it wasn't what I wanted for this car. I just thought I'd post up my time here cuz there's alot of needless bickering between makes, and I thought those here who respect a car regardless of the name badge would appreciate it. Thanks for all of the positive comments!

impressive, given what the car runs stock.

this is equivalent to making a 2.4 5spd run low 14s (while n/a). good job man.

There are three turbo options for the 4.0L (PowerHouse, Forced4, and STS), which offer the most performance kick. Most guys run 12's, some run 11's, and one ran a 10.9 with an added shot. Not sure of boost levels.

There are several supercharger options as well. Paxton/Vortech, X-Charger, and one other I cannot remember the name of. Of those, the X is my favorite. It looks like it was installed at the factory, and soon it will be available with an intercooler.

Another new aftermarket option is the availability of cams/heads. Blowby Racing is offering a new set of cams, and they will P&P the heads. Powerhouse did their own cams and P&P, with one member getting 270rwhp on his NA V6. That's what a S197 GT puts to the ground! That part of the aftermarket is only at its begining.

The other nice feature of the V6 S197 is the availability of take-off parts from the GT's. As an example, like-new 8.8" rears with various ratios/LSD can be had for about the same price as it takes to rebuild our 7.5" with an LSD and gears.

My only concern is that with the price of gasoline escalating, I hope this modern muscle car era lasts longer than the one in the 60's/70's.
