Broken Car

Ok im having problems with my cobalt again and im hoping somebody can help me out. It is in at the garage but im wondering what could be wrong with it.

It is a stock 2006 ss sc- no aftermarket parts

It is boosting 140kpa plus- sometimes going off the gauge ( this will happens sometimes a 3000-4000rpm). It will be going along and then when you go to press the gas it sputters and then trys to quit and then if you speed u the engine light comes on and reduced engine power. If cruise is on on the highway it will do this when you go to climb incline along with the boost going through the roof.

The first time it was reading a MAF sensor code, engine misfire code, and one other 1 but i cant rember. It has done this for a week now. It is using a ton of gas and also sounds like it is going to blow up.

It was in a GSL once and they just cleared the codes and said they couldnt find anything, i took it back again today as it quit 4 more times.( Well engine reduced power and then quit)

It has no power and it strugles to get to 130km/h.

Any ideas?

It is if it's still under warranty and you're still stock

Yes, Cats should be warrantied until 8 years/160,000 miles.

It is classified as an emissions part.

Have the dealer check the cat. Take it to Shagganapi Chev Olds. The boys there are great. My 06 is there right now. Chris Corea used to have a SS/SC and Bobby Spaulding still has his and there both Service techs there. What ever you do, DON"T TAKE IT TO JACK CARTER. idiots.

Ok - they took the car and gave it back to me last night replaced the mass airflow sensor and the airfilter. Took it out and it did it right away again. THey said it is not the cat. Any other ideas- the service manger thought maybe the boost controler- would that cause the car to go on reduced engine power though?

I still say plugged cat cause there has got to be somethig blocking it to have that much boost, does it run crappy?? take it back and ask if they even drove it thats bullshit u get it back and its still doing the same thing.

Get the service manager to explain to you why your boost is abnormally high... See what he says. 140 kpa is about 20 psi or so. If he says it's normal, I'd drive until you blow the headgasket and then have him look at it again.

Where did you take it There is no way you can reach 140 kpa, think it is the cat. Tell them to do an exhaust back pressure check.
