Aftermarket front sway bar

I had to, uh, cut off my front sway bar links to get them detached from my factory struts. What I need to know, is does the Suspension Techniques front sway bar completely replace the factory system, or do I still need certain parts off the factory system to make it work? If its a complete replacement, I'll order it today.

Why did you have to cut them off? I had no problem with mine and mine is an '05 too.

there is no need to cut the sway bar to remove the struts they aren't directly connected

The sway bar links bolt onto the strut. The bolt that is embedded into the bushing at the end of the link was rusted to the nut. The nut would not come free from the bolt because the bolt rotates freely in the bearing. Therefore, I cut the bolt off. Now, technically, I could just replace that bearing end, but, its already been cut off, and if I get to remedy my problem with new performance parts, all the better.

[edit] Investigation Complete. I assume this product is interchangable between the SS/SC model and the base model?

I am not familiar with this product. I must investigate

I would just replace your sway bar end links, get the bwoody's if you want some added durability...I think you have to drop the engine cradle to replace the entire sway bar...

Yeah, it does look like a big hassle. The stock GM sway bar links are $69, so I was a little hesitant to waste that much on them when the aftermarket kit is ~$140. That said, I see the Bwoody sway bar links look like my best option. Will add a small amount of stiffness, as well as solving my immediate problem of my broken swaybar links.

Thanks guys.

Can someone give me a link to the Bwoody sway bar links.
I need a new right side sway bar link, but the dealer wants $113 for just the one.
Only part that sucks about being in Canada, always get ripped on prices

Will they fit on my 2.2 Suspension?

not sure, but i don't see why not, from what i know the springs and swaybars are whats different on the SS's. that and the shocks, but i'm sure the mounting points are similar.

okay, well I ordered them. My right side sway bar link needs to be changed any how, and If I have to pay $113 for a standard link, I'll spend the extra $50 and get stronger links. Hopefully it will tighten it up a lil, cause when I get a bit of speed I get a bit of a shake right now...
I need new Control Arm Bushings, but I'm waiting for the new ones to come. Hopefully it will be soon

not sure about the part. but next time get a pair of vice grips on the stud, and the bolt will come right off. i've had to use that technique many times, and it works even when air tools won't get the nut off.

That's a negative. All you have to do is raise and support the vehicle, take the front wheels off and then support the transmission with a jack and a piece of wood between it. Take the transmission mount out and you'll have enough clearance to take it out if jack the trans up a little bit. The job isn't that bad, even for someone with a basic set of handtools and a jack. It books 1.9 hours for a technician. Keep in mind this small 'write up' if you will, is for any cobalt model.

Edit: NOTE: be sure to take it out of the right (passenger) side of the vehicle.
