well, i got a speeding ticket today for 74 in a 40.....for those of you who live in the frisco/plano area, i was on dallas parkway (the service drive, not the tollway) and the cop caught me leading a pack of cars that were all speeding.....grrrr.....anyway, i got the ticket and i have to contact the police department within 12 days.....does anyone know what my options are in texas? im originally from michigan, and im familiar with their laws, but have no idea how to go about dealing with this.....i really just want to get out of the points, not the fine.....any suggestions?

and i already got the :nono: :nono: from my parents, so dont really need it here.......

you will have to get it deferred(probation)
too fast for defensive driving (25over)
or just pay it

O tickets what fun. I was really hoping to become a rather productive member of this great forum here. But This will more than likely be one of my last posts here. The reason for this? This car causes me to much trouble. A few months back I ran from the cops and of course good old Motorola is a pretty damn fast machine and I spent the night in jail. Well thats behind me now but just in the past 3 weeks iv gotten 3 tickets. Iv decided that the cobalt has to go. Tomorrow I say goodbye to the yellow beast.

In case you where wondering what my 3 tickets have been. 1 speeding 76 in a 65 by hi po, 2 no insurance by county cop (thankfully that one gets drop when i show proof of insurance), 3 the one that worries me the most drag racing by county cop.

I have court for these 3 tickets at the end of jan. The fact that I was on a deferred sentence for the attempting to elude and doing 90 in a 65 scares me. My lawyer told me hes gonna TRY and keep me outa jail.

I know most of these things are dumb. As my wonderfull girlfriend tells me every damn day. Thats why the cobalt is going.

Ill be sure to post what the outcome for my tickets are here when I find out whats going on.

You can get into trouble in any car, it's not the car, but the driver as they say. Shitty news about the eluding, but seriously what were you thinking ? :) Hehe.

I hope you don't go to jail. Speeding is not worth having to "Bite the pillow" ...

Sorry to hear the news...

Eluding nice.. You can't stay on the same road when eluding. You need to get a good mile or two ahead get off an exit. Then blast through a maze of some side streets. Our cars are perfect for a high speed chase. We got the speed and handling

you cant get deffered or defensive driving, you were going too fast... trust me i know. im the king of tickets, just ask japeatr. some cities are cool and you can get deffered if you do some community service with the fine for the ticket. you just have to talk to the prosecuter or the judge and offer that up to them and see what they say. thats what i do and it has worked almost everytime. good luck!

your pretty much going to have to pay ir for that amount over. In Texas I know you lose your right to an alternative form such as a defered ajudication or defensive driving once you pass 25+ over the limit. An attorney still might be able to work something out, but I honestly think your best bet is just going to be to take the hit. The only thing which will appear on your driving record is

the date, City in which the Offense was commited, And then it will say Speeding,

It will not say your speed.

Why is a trial by Jury wasting TaxPayers money ?? We are all innocent untill proven guilty by a jury of our piers .

Oh lets just wast our money and pay the Ticket . I forgot Cops are always right , They would never make a mistake .

If you plead not guilty, they will probably offer you a deal. Take the deal and avoid the trial. You'll get raped if you go to trial, they do train for trials and they will win.

That's my point.

Jurors are paid for their time there, and expense of their travel. If you were honestly protesting the ticket, then no it is not a waste, but he admited that he was speeding. With that being said he should not fight it in court.

Be a man and pay for the consequenses like one. Don't be some slimy worm trying to manipulate the system.

I agree lol. I passed a nj state trooper (one of the big boys) doing 85 in a 65. He was getting back into his car on the shoulder after pulling someone over. This is while I was racing a firebird forumla I belive. I took the next exit, went to another highway, took the next exit off that exit, and got lost in a pretty bad area of NJ. I was scared sh*tless. But it's better to be lost than to have a pretty expensive ticket and higher insurance and possibly a license taken away.

well, by signing the ticket in the first place, i plead guilty, so that options out.......i guess ill just have to pay it.....i seriously dont have time to do community service and deferred driving. the money isnt really the issue, but the points.....i dont want to have to pay for this for years.

Let me guess, you've never been on a jury

I got $8 for a full day of jury duty, that's for my time and for travel. So after my "travel" expenses, which was a $5.50 round trip bus trip, I got paid $2.50 for an 8 hour day...

As for the ticket, try to plead it down. I got an 84 in a 55 here in PA and talked the cop into failure to obey a posted sign. The other one was a bogus ticket (was going 63 in a 55, cop wrote 78 in a 55) and plead it down to 60 in a 55, paid the fine, and kept it off my record.

Just go to court. A lot of times if the judge has a courtroom full of "low lives/druggies etc." he will see your ticket and your good record (im guessing its good) and tell you that he doesnt want to see you in there again. Its worth a try!....you should also invest in a good radar detector...even my 120 dollar whistler has saved my ass countless times.

Allways go to court!!!....................Sometimes the cops don't show up and you win. Sometimes you lose but keep your points. Sometimes you pay less in fines. It's your right to fight any charge against you in court. Get witnesses and get people who know you...I.E; Doctors or Lawyers or friends and your bosses to vouch for your integrity. This may be a one time slip up and the court judges will take this into account. There may be other reasons why you had to speed up. The officers detectors have a degree of error. You may be able to prove that the detector picked up the car ahead of you or behind you. The weather may be a factor. Your charter rights may have been infringed upon. Chances are that your charge will be reduced in some way...........................but if you just stand there and plead guilty.................then you are a fool and deserve to get it in the end...................................YOUR END!!!!!! If you really need help, pay the extra cash and get a good x-copper or points lawyer to defend you. It is a game for them.......they play it everyday and you don't so trust in them....it may be worth it.....If you could pay x number of dollars and walk away isn't it worth it?????????????????

don't let them lock you up :lock: :ca:

im pretty sure the cop said that by signing the ticket i was pleading guilty......but he was talking so fast, maybe he said i was not pleading guilty by signing.....who knows. there was a reason for me driving so fast, i wont go into details, but lets just say i was under "emotional duress." maybe that will count for something in court?

Here in Texas , we get $40 per day to serve on the jury , that hardly covers a missed day of work . So again Plead not guilty , and they will make a sweet deal just to avoid the jury trial .

Also just by signing a ticket , is not admitting guilt , it only means you received a copy and agree to call or appear in court as stated on the citation ..

A good friend of mine is a cop and he says that if a cop misses a court date (at least in TX), they get a 3 day suspension. Most cops opt for the overtime and show up! I wouldn't worry too much about it. Show up and see what the judge says. Keep us posted on the outcome.

I was told by a defensive driving instructor that the judge can actually determine whether you can get Defensive Driving even if its 25 MPH over.

I've gotten out of a couple of tickets before. The first ticket I opted for trial by judge, then asked if I could have it rescheduled, at the rescheduling the cop did not show up so they threw out that case.

The 2nd one I asked for a reschedule and the cop said he couldn't remember the details so they threw that case out (rare though because a cop would rather lie outright than to say he forgot the specifics of his citation).

I was also told to ask for a trial by Jury as long as you have a purposeful case, (i.e. there were cars all around me and in front of me so I'm not sure how the officer's radar gun could have distinguished between my speed and the car in front of me). Also they say you can challenge the calibration of the radar gun. At any rate, good luck. I wish they would just tell people that they're generating money with traffic citations instead of pretending that its in the name of safety.....

My first time to NJ I got lost, late at night in a rental and ended up in Camden. I have travelled quite a bit in the US and this was by far the scariest place ever. I had to run some red lights, dodge some gang bangers, and make some really shitty manouvers to get out of there I was not stopping for anyone.

Question to those who know NJ:
Is camden NJ really that bad (It gave me chills) or was it just my imagination?

Sorry for the hi jack just sharing my experience with Camden...

Let's just say that Camden has had the number one crime rate in America for a few years....that is the ghetto of America....even worse than Detroit. I went there once and I felt like we were going to be robbed at every light so we just didn't stop at anymore red lights

AMEN Brother!!! Then they wouldn't have to call for donations and send you a craptastic sticker. Although I do try to donate at least $25 when they do.

I hate when they run those speed traps off the overpasses. One guy is tagging everyone and then reports it to a line of bike cops (usually six deep) lined up on the on ramp out of sight. I've never been hit by one. It's cray to see five or six cars pulled over by a cop all within 1/2 mile of each other.

The only slimy worm in this situation was the cop hiding in the bushes with the radar gun who clocked him in the first place. It all about collecting revenue, not promoting safety, don't kid yourself.

Have you ever been to traffic court?? Talk about "manipulation". First you talk to the prosecutor, and he asks you "What you want out of this". Most people say they don't want the points, so they proceed with the tiral. They advise against pleading "Not Guilty" because you'll just lose, being that the cops, judge, and court personell are all on the same side - that being the side of the town, and their job is to collect money. So they pretty much say they'll drop the points if you agree to pay the (unreasonably high) ticket. Most people are happy to not get the points, so they agree, and the town takes their money. They just use the points to manifulate, being that drivers have more points benefits them in no way. Revenue, however, is a different story.

The system is completely corrupt and it makes me sick just thinking about it.

Go to court always... and the best defense usually from what I have hear.. (no speeding tickets yet...) is to say you werent going that fast and the cops radar must have been off, ask them to prove the last time they checked its accuracy. Tell the judge he must have gotten radar off the other car that was passing you.

update: I went to court here in Frisco, and the judge pretty much told me I had no option but to pay and take the points, so I appealed to the higher court in Mckinney. At this point I hired a lawyer and he got me 15 hours of community service in exchange for no points, so I took it. I further weasled my way out of this by finding this park in Mckinney that gives you double time for community service hours, so I really only worked for 7.5 horus and It's all over (thank god).

He said he didn't get any points. And traffic lawyers are your friends. Most can get all penalties eliminated.

I used a traffic lawyer for a citation. Then again my last name is nearly impossible to spell correctly so I get off on that mostly. Oh they find a mr money..m (what my name can sound like) This ticket was not written to my client. Case dismissed. lol.

that is so true. texas cops suck...as do the highways and drivers...

but thats another story, when living in jersey, you hit the parkway and do 80. just follow the cars, the cops follow you. i only got a few speeding tickets in nj over 5 yrs of having my license while living there. all for 25+, reckless and careless (streetracing)

here...HAHAHAHA

first week here, 76 in a 60 and that cop was PISSED. i didn't get it. i saw no problem at all. he saw it different. stupid slow ass drivers in texas. its amazing that they all drive so slow, but have the most accidents i have EVER seen. i see at least 2 a day and the highway would be a dead stop. complete opposite from jersey...damn i miss that state (but don't miss the insurance;) )

:guns: I got my first speeding ticket today in the new car, but listen at this crap. I was on my way home from an out of town business trip, while driving threw Baton Rouge, La. I was driving in lunch time traffic, there was a inpatient butt 2 cars behind me nowhere to at the time. The dumb butt finally gets to and comes flying past me than slams on brakes, so I look up, to see what the problem is and their he is sitting on the shoulder. The brave cop walks in to the interstate and points at me to pull over, so I do and gives me the ticket for allegedly doing 75 in a 60 Louisiana sucks. The nice thing is it doesn't matter if you 1 mph or 30 mph over the speed limit its only $117 for it. :nono:
