View Full Version : Outrageous Insurance...
schamsy 04-25-2008, 07:20 PM Ok, so before I got my car I called up an insurance agent and they said insurance every 6 months would be $800 for my 2007 cobalt ss/sc. I got the bill today and it is $1508 every 6 months. I'm super pissed. I'm 20 years old and have been in one accident, slid into a ditch with my old car. Am I paying way too much???
Who are you using?
SSRedSC 04-25-2008, 07:22 PM State Farm. Yes you are paying way too much. That may even be and understatement; what you are paying is ridiculous!
YSUsteven 04-25-2008, 07:22 PM I was just over $1500 a year, and I thought that was a lot... I have no accidents and have only a loly LT. Try an independant agent.
Do you have the $1,000,000 clause?
Littlegoose 04-25-2008, 07:27 PM 965$ every 6 for me. 18y Male, State Farm, no tickets, no wrecks, no nothin.
SS_Ry 04-25-2008, 07:29 PM wow you pay more in 6 months than i pay in a year!!
SSRedSC 04-25-2008, 07:29 PM 1400/yr. 22 y/o, M, No tickets, Good Student Discount, and that is still too much.
JohnnySasakiMGS 04-25-2008, 07:32 PM Insurance companies are all thieves.
SSRedSC 04-25-2008, 07:33 PM Insurance companies are all thieves.
Hell yea, and then god forbid you should have to make a claim. They take all their money back in a few short months after that.
Special D. 04-25-2008, 07:36 PM Wow! I only pay 800 a year! USAA, 20y/o M, 2008 Cobalt Sport, Military discount, Good Driver discount, No missed payments discount, Safe Vehicle Discount! :guns:
SSRedSC 04-25-2008, 07:37 PM Wow! I only pay 800 a year! USAA, 20y/o M, 2008 Cobalt Sport, Military discount, Good Driver discount, No missed payments discount, Safe Vehicle Discount! :guns:
N/A makes a difference but that is not bad at all.
Littlegoose 04-25-2008, 07:37 PM not to mention the fact that they don't give/pay for new parts all the time if they can avoid it.
JohnnySasakiMGS 04-25-2008, 07:38 PM Hell yea, and then god forbid you should have to make a claim. They take all their money back in a few short months after that.
My g/f totaled her 98 Sable and you know what we got? 500 god damn dollars. Thanks fuckers!
boostedss26 04-25-2008, 07:40 PM ha ha mine was 300 a month when i was 21 last year then i got married and have my winter beater on it 130 for full coverage
srowler9 04-25-2008, 07:40 PM I only pay $389/6 months. This is from progressive.
BitchyTheDwarf 04-25-2008, 07:41 PM I'm currently paying 86 a month for 2 cars because my Ford Aspire is still my daily driver. If I only had the Coby it would be 96 a month. State Farms. For once being 35 and female is a good thing ;) Cobalt is full coverage, Aspire is liability only.
jboll 04-25-2008, 07:48 PM WOW ! that's a lot ! Even when I was that age I don't think mine was ever that much. I pay $50 for a 1998 dodge 4X4, $50 2004 vibe ( gf's car ) and 2007 SS/SC $50 a month. All have full coverage, and I don't right now but have had several tickets on my license.
cobaltguy88 04-25-2008, 07:53 PM Im 19, male, 2007 Cobalt LT... no history of accidents, no tickets, no nothing... I pay $136 a month.. i have 4 discounts applied to my account. :)
firemanfrank 04-25-2008, 07:57 PM $61 month/$732 year
No Accidents/No Tickets
State Farm
08G5GT2.4L 04-25-2008, 08:31 PM I pay about $410 a MONTH! Im 18 no accidents no violations and I drive a '08 Pontiac G5 GT.:thumbsdow I'd love to pay $200 a month but that wont happen for a while.
schamsy 04-25-2008, 08:33 PM I'm getting raped here...
GSMiller 04-25-2008, 08:43 PM We pay $186 a month for liability on a 95 Cavalier, 01 Blazer 4x4, and my 07 Cobalt LS. Even with my moms AARP discount, full coverage would have been $200 on just the Cobalt. When we had Nationwide and I was added as a driver the rates went up $600 a month (yes, a month).
papasmurf 04-25-2008, 08:46 PM wow.... $120 a month for full coverage on both my cars ( ss/sc and talon) 24 male
Brraaapp 04-25-2008, 09:00 PM Ok, so before I got my car I called up an insurance agent and they said insurance every 6 months would be $800 for my 2007 cobalt ss/sc. I got the bill today and it is $1508 every 6 months. I'm super pissed. I'm 20 years old and have been in one accident, slid into a ditch with my old car. Am I paying way too much???
Who are you using?
23M That aint shit. When I first got my lt my insurance was 1800 every 6 months. My payments were more then my car payments. Oh well its only money right. :cussing:
vols247 04-25-2008, 09:00 PM Wow I pay about 2200 every 6 months
Sharkey 04-25-2008, 09:37 PM no accidents im at $2600/year. insurenace here doesnt matter your age or sex, just your driving record, every year with no at fault accidents you gain another 5% off base rate to a max of 40. here base rate for an 05 ss/sc is $3900. on the oposite side, if you get in an accident, you can go back as many as 6 places (30%) and you can go to a max of 40% surcharge if you have a bad driving record.
LS6Rally 04-25-2008, 09:42 PM when i got my licenc i was paying 3200/ yr for an 01 cavy (two years ols at time). i now pay 2000 a year 21 no tickets or accidents. AAA discount. i know i pay to much MASS FTW
MikeyMo84 04-25-2008, 09:52 PM 2300 a year
srowler9 04-25-2008, 09:56 PM I can't believe how raped people are getting on their insurance. Wow! How are insurance rates so different. I only pay $389/6 months. (progressive). I don't get it. A lot of you have clean records, and are still paying over $1500 every six months. I know that age plays a role, but am I missing something here?
boostedss26 04-25-2008, 10:02 PM cobalt guy you have a lt thats why it's cheap
darkknight 04-25-2008, 10:19 PM I can't believe how raped people are getting on their insurance. Wow! How are insurance rates so different. I only pay $389/6 months. (progressive). I don't get it. A lot of you have clean records, and are still paying over $1500 every six months. I know that age plays a role, but am I missing something here?
it has to do with your credit history and where you live. when I moved a couple miles down the road and entered into a different zip code, the cost went down about 80 bucks per month.
I'm currently paying $150 for just liability on my 98 Sunfire, I'm 19yo, M, 1 at fault accident and I'm on my parents account. If I was by myself, I couldn't afford insurance :thumbsdow
maverick0716 04-26-2008, 03:17 AM 2007 G5 GT (2.4L). I'm 23 with 7 years driving experience, no tickets, no accidents, 35% discount.......$171/month with full coverage.
007CobaltLS 04-26-2008, 03:41 AM OK, not to sound weird, but that isn't horrible. Maybe for the rest of you that are around 21 and under and have the SS/SC, but when I was your age, I drove my 99 Saturn SC1 and for full coverage I was paying $300 a month. That's a car that has a 1.9L SOHC (100hp at the crank). It's not a sports car by any means...only meant for fuel economy. Now if you want to talk about someone getting screwed, it was me. That was living at home with my parents and my mom and I were on the policy (my dad had someone else for risk insurance at the time) along with home coverage and through American Family. They're the worst.
With my 07 LS 4dr, I pay about $80/month because of one speeding ticket. I am 24, married, have multiple line discounts with our house. This is through State Farm. I know it's not great, but considering the ticket, I'm fine with it. When I first got the car they didn't know about the ticket since it was with the old car and I was paying $60/month.
I look forward to buying a sports car in the next couple years, being 25 soon, I should see a small drop and when I buy a GTO, Sky RL, or Crossfire SRT6 (haven't decided which one yet), I should see a pretty decent rate.
Cougar 04-26-2008, 11:49 AM Just be thankful you do not live in New Jersey. We always get dicked over on insurance.
06YellowSS/SCinSC 04-26-2008, 11:53 AM Wow, we pay $180 for my ss/sc and a wrx- both full coverage! I don't think that's too bad. We both have one ticket. And we aren't married either. Just on the same policy.
steddy2112 04-26-2008, 11:58 AM Just be thankful you do not live in New Jersey. We always get dicked over on insurance.
Thank you.
Everyone in this thread is a whiny bitch if you have complained about your insurance.
OP is paying 251 a month at 20 with an accident?!
19 with one accident and 2 speeding tickets=$453 a month for liability on a piece of trash Talon DL(1.8 92hp) with 173,000 miles.
Not to mention I had surcharges to pay, which totaled $1800
An accident that a claim is made on your own insurance is 5 insurance points which is worse than two speeding tickets.
I pay $151 a month for full coverage on the Cobalt and $56 liability on my Passport.
$800 a year for liability on my bike.
23 with a clean record.
/thread

Whining-devil 05-06-2008, 03:28 PM Ok, so before I got my car I called up an insurance agent and they said insurance every 6 months would be $800 for my 2007 cobalt ss/sc. Until you wreck it and they find out you're fraudulently claiming insurance and then they take your money and you're left inserting a sharp stick into your own ass.

Some people love sharp sticks in their ass though.

She's a Cherry Hill cop, so it's possible. She's the most racist bigotory person you can imagine. She thinks her gun is her cock and her badge is her KKK wardrobe.
When I first bought my SS, I paid $3800 for SIX months, paid that in full.
Immediately switched companies after 6 months and am down to $1500 every six months.
I would have switched companies on Day 1. $630/month for insurance is rediculous!
rnjmur 05-07-2008, 02:10 PM I remember when I was 18 I bought a ford probe. cost me $150/month for insurance and that was in 1995.
Of course now I am married, 31 yo and have a house. 2 cars; a 2005 mazda tribute AWD and 2005 Cobalt SS/SC $40/month for both cars full coverage... :)
What is funny, the Tribute actually costs $25/month for the insurance and my coblat is $15/month for insurance... go figure... lol
Whining-devil 06-10-2008, 05:01 PM Did something happen to the value of the canadian dollar? Super_SS 06-10-2008, 07:56 PM its cuz the cobalt ss/sc is considered a 2dr high performance car and the insurance costs much more than the regular 2dr..my srt4 is listed as a 4dr sedan and i pay 486 6 months and i have 1 accident on my record that will expire in november 08
TPRMcfly 06-10-2008, 07:59 PM its cuz the cobalt ss/sc is considered a 2dr high performance car and the insurance costs much more than the regular 2dr..my srt4 is listed as a 4dr sedan and i pay 486 6 months and i have 1 accident on my record that will expire in november 08
srt4 insurance is more than double of what the ss/sc would be for me.....
right now on my ls i pay 2,000year 1 wreck
06 ss/sc quote $2,200year
srt4 was about $4,500year
Shibito 06-10-2008, 08:05 PM I pay 800 a year. 18 y/o no scratches on my record and I have GM insurance.
youngfs 06-10-2008, 08:06 PM I know, that's why I don't complain. Previous car was a sentra spec-v full of mods that I got when I was a younger punk. Out of 15, 12 of the tickets I accumulated were during the time I had the sentra... 6 are speeding, 2 was for like 45 in a 40 zone and the rest was just bullshit given to cover the cops ass after drug searches and racial profiling. Only 2 speeding tickets are from the past two years.
Apcsox 06-10-2008, 10:12 PM $1997 a year.. 22 y/o male, 1 point aginst liscense
blk ss/sc 1 06-10-2008, 10:20 PM hahha listen to some of you whine.. i NEVER have had a ticker or been in a wreck and geuss what.. i pay $2,350/6 months.. yea thats close to $400 a month just because i lost all of my GOOD discounts becasue i took a year off of college to work more and because im 18. even with my good student discount its like 1,600/6 months though.. west virginia sucks
Mr.N00bLaR 06-10-2008, 10:30 PM Hmm.. 468$/6 months (19). No tickets, drive and auto sedan LS. I'm on with my mom and have a good student discount. Clean license, why??? I guess I deserve it for using my turn signals rofl.. 2g a year is bad but at one point in time my dad was paying 4g a year to drive an Intrepid. There were accidents but accidents he was 0% responsible for.
cobaltguy88 06-10-2008, 11:06 PM i have state farm... 19 yr old male, clean record, no accidents, no nothing... :) i pay $136/month and thats with a few discounts applied, i believe i have 4 discounts applied last time i checked. lol
