Question about this turboed cobalt
well guys i have a 06 ss/sc and i was wondering would it be smart to buy the new turbocharged model. i bought it used last year and now it has 33000 miles on it would you recommend a 18 year old buying the new turbocharged cobalt right now i have had the ss/sc for a year like i said and i still have 6 more years to pay on it at 320 dollars a month will it be less if i buy the 08 cobalt turbo a month
You will not only lose money trading in the SS/SC... BUT you will be paying a lot more for an SS/TC... as in having higher monthly payments (And insurance will probably go up as well, since it is a higher hp car.
Just stick with what you got... if you want more or want a Turbo... call Hahn Racecraft and ask for the Super 20G.

The LNF has been making close to 325rwhp in the Sky/Solstice with low to mid 400 rwtq.
The trans can obviously hold it... otherwise they wouldn't put it in there... and HPTuners has a Beta Tuner out for the LNF already.

- Performance wise (Stock for Stock) the SS/T is superior to the SS/SC in every way
- Unless you had put down a chunk of $$ on your '06, you'll lose A LOT of $$ trading in (Rebates will help, but you're still way upside down)
- By upgrading your car to Stage 2 and having it installed by a dealer, you'll be within 15hp of the SS/T's power (with both cars retaining their full factory warranty)
The question is then, "Can you afford to lose a lot of $$ on the trade?"
If you can, then get the SS/T.
If not, then go St. 2 and be happy with a great performing car and all the $$ you saved.
Not completely true about the Turbo... not completely true about the tranny either... and DEFINITELY not true about the Tuning.

but to the op, it won't be worth it. you're not going to get anywhere near what you think you will for your cobalt, the trade in will kill you. bad.
And yes, the ECM is different. I can't remember the company who makes it... but its Nice.
I wanna say Bosch.
EDIT: I win!
Transmission
Backing the turbocharged engine is a standard GM Powertrain Sweden F35 five-speed manual transmission. Semi-synthetic transmission fluid is used for its capability of absorbing heat and resisting breakdown during high-performance driving.
A performance-oriented feature referred to as no-lift shift allows maximum performance upshifts can be performed very quickly without lifting the throttle. An algorithm in the engines controller enables this high-performance feature, which helps maximize acceleration and gear changes.
A short-throw shifter with stiffened shifter bushings and modified cables and attachments enhances confidence behind the wheel, giving the driver a firmer, more direct and quicker shift feel. A limited-slip differential is available with the manual transmission.
3.82:1 final drive ratio
The Cobalt SSs powertrain has a 3.82:1 final drive ratio, which was selected because it allows the turbocharged engine to remain in the optimal section of the torque band during shifts and while driving competitively on a racetrack. This enhances both the cars tangible performance measures and intangible fun-to-drive quotient

No, I'm pretty sure that its still going to have the F35. They just changed the Final Drive Ratio.

I wonder how hard it would be to convert out SS/SC's to that 3.82 Final Drive... that would make all the gears longer... but 1st gear is the main one that I have in mind.

or both, and take the 2 grand i'm going 2 get for graduation and save it all and just take it to hahns place since he's an hour away and let him have at it.
Well YA! That's a given! Hahaha... simple misunderstanding there.
Back to the gear thing... dropping the Final Drive would lengthen those gear out. It'd be nice for first gear... but I don't know about the rest... GRAPH TIME!
This is a car with 205/45-18's
Left is a Stock SS/SC revving it to 7000, Right is what it would do with the SS/TC Trans Final Drive

This is for a car with 225/45-18's (What I have, and what I think the new TC has...)

As for the OP, i would agree with majority...... non sense in working for a car when your 19...... use what you have now and learn on it... then when you can afford it, something better will come along it always does......
...on a second note... Do you wanna buy my car? I'm looking to sell it. It'll be a SS/TC killer once they come out.
