View Full Version : .035 plug gap stock?!
XCRuna1201 04-29-2008, 10:11 PM Okay so I put on the 2.9 pulley today for the stage 2 and from what I read you should start out with .040 gap for the 2.9's. I pulled the plugs out thinking I was going to have to reduce the plug gap and to my surprise they were .035! I read on a thread that the manual states the stock plug gap to be .042..could the smaller .035 stock plug gap been my problem with the sudden lurching motions I would get at high RPMs sometimes? I went ahead and gapped them at .040 and it feels great and love the extra kick it gives me!:guns:
Littlegoose 04-29-2008, 10:54 PM yes it could. Sometimes certain gaps work fine with one persons car, but dont with someone else's in a different place. Glad to hear its running better.
XCRuna1201 04-29-2008, 11:25 PM Yeah its running great...it feels like its faster but I dont think im getting more than 15.5 PSI. It could jsut be cuase the temperature outside is getting higher...whatcha think?
Littlegoose 04-30-2008, 12:03 AM Yeah, I normally get about 16PSI on my 2.9, but last week we had 2 cold days and I got 17-17.5 PSI.
XCRuna1201 04-30-2008, 12:14 AM How cold was it when you got the 16 PSI?
it was about 65 when I took it out to test it this evening...

I the 16 seems a bit higher than most it is because we in Charleston are at or below sea level in most places.
Littlegoose, where did you dyno those numbers at in your sig? GSC, AV Engineering, or PowerZone? Just curious because there is no way that was at the Show Zone.
My car only like the .035 plug gap. Not sure if it's my mods or what, but anymore more and I get knock. I might need to get another step colder plug in the future, but as of right now the .035 does the trick wiht my BKR7E's

Where I live it is right under 1000 feet above....dont they recommend 2 steps colder for 2.7 and below? I was just surprised that stock they were .035. Oh and the weight of the new pulley and the stage 2 pulley is like night and day it is soo light!

Yeah I got mine at GSC. GSC sold their dyno to Autometrics and moved down the street though so I'll probably start going to Show Zone. Why do you ask?

Not sure on the recommendaton, but I feel that if you are seeing knock at that point it might be time to make the step down. I'm pretty much borderline and could probably use to step down, but the car was running awesome right before I deployed, so we'll see what's up when I get back.

I figured your numbers had to be on a Dynojet because the Show Zone's Mustang Dyno is a true heartbreaker. My setup in my sig before the meth only put down 238whp and 230wtrq on their dyno, yet my car is a lot faster than the numbers show. As another example my GM S2 w/2.8" & I/H/E laid down 214whp and so didn't my buddies with the same setup, so I know it's consistant, it just rates a lot lower than the local Dynojets do. Just be prepared to see a lot lower numbers than you're used to if you start dynoing there. ;)

When I pulled my stock plugs, they were also at .035.

Im not feeling any knock it acutally feels smoother after the 2.9 and regapping the plugs out too .040 form .035

The two ways you can tell you have knock is audibly outside the car unless you have it real bad or by datalogging with a device of some sort. My exhaust is loud as hell, so I have to datalog and you'd be surprised to find out sometimes when the car is knocking and you wouldn't think it.
If your car is running better with the .040, then go for it! A lot of people on here run that gap with their cars and it works out great. My car is just retarded and fights me every step of the way!
XCRuna1201 04-30-2008, 02:18 PM Yeah it is running great but when I started it up after the install and came back from the test drive I could have sworn that a clicking noise that I was hearing in the engine bay was not there before....could that be knock a clicking noise? As i said I cant remeber if it was there before or not but I know the supercharger does have some odd noises...?
2K5SS/SC? 04-30-2008, 02:26 PM Knock has the distinct sound of it's own. It's like a "Ping" I guess is the best way to say it. Almost like if you were to drop a bolt onto a concrete floor.
XCRuna1201 04-30-2008, 02:37 PM oh okay well its defiantly not that its just a little clicking noise....my friends dad showed us a cool technique on how to listen to the motor. Have you ever used a STICK to listen to it?
lol im not kidding who wants to know how to do it? I mean come on who doesnt want to listen to the INSIDE of your supercharger?

Yeah, GSC recommended I go to AV-Engineered. I'm half tempted to go to them since they use the same dyno that gsc did (except theirs has load correction, GSC's did not) and that would give a slightly more accurate result (of my last dyno, to one with my current mods) than going from dynojet to heart-break mustang haha. What do you think? Should I use AV or just bite the bullet, go to showzone and use that as my new baseline with my current mods?

Bite the bullet and go the the Show Zone for a current baseline. I heard Anthony will not allow anyone in the vicinity of car during dynoing/tuning to include the owner. That is complete bullshit if you ask me because I want to be right there if shit goes wrong because no one else knows my own car better than me. Go to the Show Zone and ask for Colin. Tell them Billy Senecal sent you because he is highly recommend for his dyno/tuning expertise. I do warn though, the numbers are going to be lower and you'll think the car is retarded at first. I get back around the end of June/July time frame if you want to meet up to be introduced or something. :twothumbs
