So the think me and the cobalt car club i am in had some questions on was bolt ons and modding these new cars. if the ECU is supose to make the car run at 260hp every time and will adjust boost levels would that mean everytime u add and intake or some other kind of bolt on the car boost level will drop to keep you at 260hp? would i need to get HP tuners for the car right away or how would i be able to add hp with bolt ons?

you are right, ive been saying that for a while along with a bunch of other members. it will just cut boost. as of right now, hp tuners doesnt support the ss/tc. my guess is that since it will be only produced for a few months, the 09 will have a different computer leaving the 08 guys out to hang.

for a while at least, modding this car will not really do anything at all.

it's actually pretty cool that it does that.

and, the other way to look at it is, that the car has the potential for more power if you can crack the ECM

But thru testing it has been discovered that without the Keystone ingredient of torque request and ETC rev control you cant really do anything useful other than log (minus the factory wideband) and maybe turn a cel off from some other intake Via tuning the MAF tables.
That in it's own right is handy in one respect. Just wont make a lick mroe power for long. thats all.

GMPP is the reason they do it, GM wants to sell the power accessories for there cars. Hence the stage kits, exhausts, and intakes available from GM. It’s not that it can’t be cracked, it’s weather someone wants to put the effort into cracking it.

HPT supports the Sky/Solstice LNF, but currently the HHR SS/Cobalt SS-TC aren’t fully supported

i've learned that gm makes these silly changes from year to year, it almost seems like they do it to make it harder to mod unless you go through gmpp like reign said. people will want more power, so if/when gm comes out with teh stage kits, if no one else cracks the computers you'll be forced to buy through them. money in their pocket.

...For the SS/TC, ummm it's hard to say. Everyone gets conflicting answers from GMPP guys. The gentlemen I talked to in Chicago said GMPP was looking into stage kits, but wasn't sure that the tranny would still meet there reliability standards to cover under warranty with the increased power.

this is one of the big reasons why i think they won't come out with anything. can the tranny handle more power? probably. but it's rated for 258 and comes with 260 as it is. so from their point of view, if they did it, it probably won't be covered under warranty. but who knows. only time will tell.

since the ss/tc cobalts dont;t exist yet, hopefully hhr ss guys get on top of this issue. we already have a member here posting about his tuned hhr ss getting 272whp. if he doesnt blow up his car then the tranny wirries will be all gone
