quick question....
quick question....
people on this forum have said before, that in a race, a stock cobalt(SS super) and a stock SRT-4 would be a tie, depending on both drivers....my question is, how would it be close if the 05 cobalt has 205 hp and the 05 SRT-4 has 230 hp....anyone know?
uhhh, lot of things really.
first of all, i don't htink it would be that close... every time i've seen these cars square off, one always seems to romp the other.
also, most stock SS/SC's seem to put down a little more than advertised.

Yes, the 205hp in the SC is underrated. Problem is though, the 230hp in the SRT is also underrated.
So basically you've got two cars that weigh the same, with flywheel hp being around 220hp in the SC and about 250hp in the SRT.
But a Stage 2 SC evens things up (plus Stage 2 is still warrantied, whereas no Stage kits for the SRT are covered under the Manufacturer's Basic Warranty).
A way to end the controversy would be to match these cars on the same dyno, on the same day.
Has anyone done this?
Does anyone know someone who has a stock SRT-4 who'd be willing to do some friendly dyno testing against a stock or stock + stage 2 SC?
I'd love to see it!
near bone stock i ran a 14.9 on a horrible one run b4 the track closed...then again you get the stock s/c balts that are dyno puttin down less than the 205 rated...so i think it depends on the balt from factory....tho either way the SRT is puttin more down from factory
the SRT4 should beat the cobalt stock for stock w/ equal drivers. but what should happen hardly ever does a stock ss/sc can beat a stock srt4
the coblat put down like 210-215 whp stock and the srt is like what 240 whp i think.
i raced an str4 w/ an intake last night. from 20-110 i had about 2 1/2 cars on him. my mods intake full 2.5" exhaust highflow cat and a tune

Just because it is putting down a number doesnt mean anything, I am putting down 145 net, my buddy's v6 tiburon is putting out 220(with mods) and I have beat him about 6 times now...
All things being equal, a stock SRT-4 should beat a stock SC every time.

Thats more like at the wheels.
A stock SS/SC is about 245~250chp. A stock SRT4 is about 260~270chp.
SS/SC has a power curve advantage and gearing advantage (other than 1st). SRT4 is setup for straight line, and though it doesn't have as broad a power curve, it has a lot higher torque through it's peak range (partially offset by gearing though).
All things being equal, stock to stock, the SRT4 will win. But the drivers will never be equal, so which ever is the better driver will win most of the time, with an advantage going to the SRT4.
