View Full Version : Annual full detail.
BlueLT 05-20-2008, 06:42 PM Once a year I give the cars the full meal deal - dish detergent wash, clay, Zaino treatment/polish, remove wheels/wax, etc etc. Then just regular washing/polishing after that. Well today was that day and I know again why I only do all that once a year *L*.
Started just after lunch and now just finished, well into the evening *L*. But at least one car is done. So I didn't get a chance to take it out somewhere nice for some overall shots, but here's some detail of various panels shot in the garage...

Dish washing soap is 100% USABLE if you're just using it pre-detail, to get all the road grime and dirt off prior to clay baring, polishin', and waxing it.
steddy2112 05-25-2008, 09:00 AM I did the same loving to my Cobalt with different products last week.
Looks beautiful man, a permium car gets a premi paint job and panels.
The dimples in our cars drive me nuts:lol:

Good ol' GM orange peel.
IROCZ0r 05-25-2008, 10:59 AM just an FYI, dish washer soap will yellow your clear over time, as well as dry out and crack your plastics.
if it will eat through polish, then it will FOR SURE eat through your clear.
i just claybar - it will get all of the old polish off, that's what it's designed to do.
but, happy detailing - car looks nice.

Dish soap is perfectly fine to use as long as you don't use it EVERY wash.

Yes to both *L*. Dishwashing liquid is fine for removing old wax/road grime etc, and is fine as long, as others have pointed out, you don't use it all the time. Once a year it gets this treatment and I've never had any problems with it. For cleaning inside the rims, I picked up a long handled, soft bristle wheel brush a few years back - and with the open spoke design of the OZ's, it's easy to keep 'em clean.

Thanks! Peel is a bit of a hit or miss - same model cars, some have it some don't it often seems. Surprisingly my last car, a WS6 Formula had almost perfect paint right from the factory! GM paint, with NO peel - musta got a good one! Couple shots...

rrutter81 05-26-2008, 06:37 AM Very impressive. Dishsoap is fine as long as it is rinsed off before the sun eats it.
