Lightbulb $3,800 What to buy...

Ok to start off with, I'll be leaving for Basic Training and AIT for the Active Army next week and figured out how much i'll be left with after bills and such when i get back. When i get back i'll have $4,800, but need a thousand to pay for a few odds and ends before i leave maryland. So i'll have $3,800 to spend on my 4 door base model.

I have a full custom catback 2" pipe exhaust system, $25 custom intake (which is def. getting replaced), Black 5-star 17" rims which will be put back on in the summer after i get new tires, and thats about all for performance wise. I've got blue underglow (please dont rag me about this), and LED set-up in the trunk just for fun.

Now any suggestions on what i should get other then my new intake?

Yeah... doing anything HALF-ASS isn't going to benefit you at all! If you are going to do something do it right... by a good intake, a good exhaust... Then you will notice those increases... UNLIKE the SS/SC guys we are starting with a dissadvantage.... yeah we are slower... but given the money we saved.... I THINK IT WAS WORTH IT!!!!!!

well like i said replacing the intake is a def. but the exhaust was built at a local shop by a good friend for a decent price... the only reason i went with 2" is because at the time i was going on a vacation in 2 days and he needed 7 days to be able to get enoguh 2.5" piping. I've always been thinking about a turbo kit, install price isnt a big deal, my friend has his own shop and will let me use his lift to install stuff and if i need his help, he helps me :P. But if i go with a turbo set-up i dont want no 4-5 turbo that will only push 40-50 extra horses, hell i could save money and get a nitious kit for $450 or so and get 50 and 75 shot nozzles for alot less.

Other then a turbo kit, what about handling, suspension, ect...

I don't know of any. If you want an all round car, go with lowering the car, rims and good tires, get nos if you don't want to spend a lot on a turbo, and possibly a clean looking body kit. Personally though, i'd go with the turbo if I had the 2.2. I heard of one keeping up with and eventually inching away from a stock ss/sc. I heard about it a while back.

turbo kit

I wont even recommend anything else in regards to performance because you should not be wasting your money else where.

No one actually has a kit yet. They are getting close. Hahn will probably have a retail stage one in just a couple of months.

Well i'll be back home in the first week of may, what is supposed to be released by then? how much is the Hanh racecraft turbo kit gonna run, price and PSI wise?

Right now im somewhere around 158HP at the crank... a 4 psi turbo is, more or less, 40 hp thats only 198 hp at the crank 10%-13% loss at the wheels, or so... somewhere aroound 172-177hp at the wheels now that woundn't bet a SS/SC, might keep up untill 3rd/4th gear, but wont inch away. i want to be able to atleast keep up with lucky up there when i get back and give him a call and say lets ride around town before im out of state for good :P

Ok i dont know if this is the one that most perople are talking about or what but the stage 2 system on this site, http://www.maximumboost.net/cob0522eturbokits.html , doesn't seem bad for price but dont you need fuel upgrades and such whenever you install a turbo? now the stage 3 has all this stuff but how much would buying the fuel upgrades after i buy this kit run me? around the same price as the stage 3? if thats the case i'd be better off getting the stage 3 right? :/

if you get fuel upgrades with that kit (yes you need them) what you have is the stage 3 kit so yes it will be that price...

I would personally wait a little bit until you come back to see what is out then because nothing that is out now has been tested on a Cobalt. Just keep the money aside as I'm sure by May there will be a quality kit out, probably the Hahn kit. May want to throw in a clutch with that money as well...

Turbo or supercharger is the only way to make safe reliable horspower on the eco engines. also if you do decide to go turbo that 2 inch exhaust isnt gonna cut it, but the corsa exhaust has been good for up to 600 hp. no turbo kits are out yet but like others said they are right around the corner and we cant go custom turbo until we get some kinf of ecu for tuning, you could run a turbo without tuning but i wouldnt suggest doing it

11X also known as infantry. I'll find put weather i'll be 11 bravo or 11 charlie after i graduate OSUT at Benning.

As far as buying another vechile. I have a 98 mustang GT lined up and the girl that owns it right now is an old friend in meny ways. She said she'd sell it to me for 8500 and she ownes 7500 on it still right now. So basicly all she wants is to make a 1000 dollar profit which is fine with me cause my mother is a loan manager at a local credit union and can get me a loan to pay off that car for her so i can own it. Only other problem is, if i do that my cobalt is getting traded in by my wife because she wants an auto and not a 5 speed.

Personally i'm still leaning tword getting my stang cause it's what i've always wanted but... then the cobalt is gone :/
