Well, I suppose I should have waited....

i knew getting a brand new model, especially so early after it's release, that there was always the chance of stuff going wrong.

I have super bad electrical gremilins. I have dash lights popping on and off, bad running and the check engine light with the "engine power reduced" warning. Which, btw, it pretty scary in downtown detriot traffic at rush hour. Been into the shop once, and going back again tomarrow. Oh well, that is what warrenties are for. i still love the car.

Hey man, I'm sorry to hear about your situation but depending on the exact laws near you, you might be able to return the car to GM under the lemon law. Atleast you'd get a brand new one.

Let us know how everything works out.

I think michigan is 7 times for the same (or reasonably similar) problem. but the one dealer I went to were jerks, so i am going back to where i bought it, just have to take off early from work friday, cause no one is open on weekends, and I work 1.5 hours from where I live (I don't drive everyday, but still is far) and the dealers in Detroit won't give you a rental until they have had it for 24 hours and I need to beable to get to work. I am sure it can be fixed.

Yeah that really sucks its crappin out. I think everyone is gunna have intake and exaust on their car for the longest time. I fear voiding the warrenty due to it being a new production car.

well it turns out that the PROM had the wrong program in it. the dealership got the latest cobalt program and flashed the PROM with it, so we'll see how it goes!

Just bought a 2006 Chevy Cobalt SS/SC with the supension package, moonroof, xm satalite radio, on star etc. etc. I have the complete full package and it's black. Traded in my 1999 Ford Taurus with the 3.0 Duratec 24VDOHC. Was having some transmission problems. Well the first day I took my shiny new black Cobalt ss/sc of the lot, I got the check engine light and reduced power message along with a lot of shake rattle and roll. The Dealer did a diagnostic and said some type of fuse blew. It was Friday. I got my car back 3 days ago. This time I'm parked listening to the radio waiting for my brother. All I do is start the car. Once again, reduced power and the engine light on. The engine light stayed on until I got home. I turned the car off and on. Light still on. I checked the owner's manual. The reduced power message comes when the engine reduces power to protect itself from damage. Sounds like what my stereo does when I get a power over load. I'm hearing rumors about some sort of program upgrad that will fix this. Is it true? I love my new car but is it worth the hassles of constantly visiting the dealership?

Firstly---there is no optionall suspension package on the SS. So saying your car has a one is like saying my car has the steering wheel package,

Secondly--ecotec has no H

thirdly---sorry to hear about your troubles. Mine has been perfect.

Cool

Ok. I get it. I'm not a technical car geek like most on this forum. I only posted because I was trying to get a solution to my problem. I am 35 getting up there in years. Wanted something fun to drive. I wasn't trying to get corrected like a 2 year old but thanks for your heartfelt sympathy.

Ecotec. Better? And yes after checking again, the performance package is standard. The world isn't perfect and I definitely don't claim to be. It's my very first car that is supercharged. Just like when I bought my first motorcycle, I bought books and educated myself on it. That's what I'll do with my brand new 2006 Chevy Cobalt SS Supercharged.

I'm taking it serious but not that serious because I want to enjoy what I have for now.
Do you have any tips about what I should do? I talked to the mechanic at my Chevy dealership and he's saying it's a possible software malfunction. After a few starts and drives, the system resets. What do you think? They're contacting GM on Monday to see if there will be a fix. No problems today. Drove like a dream.

Thanks for the corrections. I'll take it all in stride.

I wasn't trying to make fun of you or anything, sorry it came across that way

Just offering a little education. For myself I always like to know whats right--so I don't mind being corrected.
